Silly pet names
When I was little, my parents adopted an Irish Setter....she was beautiful, but she already had a name. Lady Shanty. What the hell?! Then, after 9 years, she ran away....and we never found her. Next, we got a little Bichon. We named him Foofur. Yes, Foofur. Dh asks me...what IS a Foofur? Do you remember the blue cartoon dog, Foofur??? LOL. He was the best. We had him for so many years and one day he had a stroke and eventually we had to put him down. Now my parents have a little Pomeranian with a normal name. DH and me don't have a dog yet, but I am sure when we do he'll be named something silly, too.....what silly pet names are in your fam?

Re: Silly pet names
We had a cat named Bunny.
My mom's cat is named Kipper. There was a cartoon on Nickelodeon called Kipper, but he was a british dog. My cousin wanted to name our cat Kipper, so my mom let her.

Re: Silly pet names
I LOVE that SIBride06's Hot Dog dog's name is Nathan. I think it's so funny and adorable.
As far as I'm concerned, my pets all have names that I don't call them, I end up calling them a nickname.
For example, I have Oscar and Mugsy. Mugsy I started calling Mugsala, then Lala, then Lala boy, then Boy, then Hoy Boy, then Roy Boy and now just Roy. His brother Oscar has really bad breath. I started calling him Stinky.
Now I call them both Stinkfried and Roy

Re: Silly pet names
All of my pets had human names...Tommy, Roxy, Phoebe, Rachel. My mom did have a cat as a kid. Although she didn't name it. With a name like pu$$y, you can figure out who did.

Re: Silly pet names
when my sisters and I were kids, my sister brought home a cat from a family she babysat for - they gave her away.
the family was Israeli and they named the cat "Sivan", which is a month in the Hebrew calandar. for some odd reason, her name morphed into "smoo" after a while
eta: not sure how I came up with this name... when I was about 8 yrs old I got a black poodle and named her "candy"

Re: Silly pet names
We're not unique - we do people names. I've had dogs named Tasha, Ella and Josie. Though our puppy (Josie) was almost named Cat.

LOVE that!
My parents had Brutus and Ceasar for dogs, and our cat is Hades. So we like using Greek/Roman figures for our names. My ILs have a dog Romulus
But my birds are Cream and Sugar, because Cream is white, and sugar is speckled. So I think that is cutesy.

Re: Silly pet names
I had a rabbit named "Slippy" when I was a kid. I put him on the floor the day I got him and his legs kept slipping out from under him, so he became Slippy.
I also had two fish named Fluffy and Cuddles.
When I was in elementary school, I had a parakeet named Oliver North and called him Ollie. I wanted to name the bird Polly, but my older brother told me that was a dumb idea. He suggested naming the bird Oliver North and calling it Ollie instead. I listened to him and was the only 7-year old I know who went around introduing her pet, Oliver North!
One of my horses is named "Phaxxton." It's pronounced like Paxton. He came with his name and I got him from a woman I am friendly with, so I never changed it. She gave him his stall plate, too, with his name on it, so I couldn't really change it. She named him after a rider she once saw whose last name was Paxton... but b/c he's an Arabian and most Arabian horses have oddly spelled names, she added an "h" and an extra "x" and the headache of explaining that to people has existed ever since!

Re: Silly pet names
My friend had a bird, dog and cat. He named them JB, JD and JC...(Just Bird, Just Dog and Just Cat)
My boss has a chick (chicken) he's just a little guy..weighs about as much as a letter envelope .09..they named him Stamp. (as in postage stamp)
Our kitties are Max and K.C. Max is short for Maximillion but named after the jazz musician Max Roach. K.C stands for Kitty Cat.

Re: Silly pet names
Before I was born my parents had a dog named Yankee. THey were living in Texas & Colorado.
When my brother and I were toddlers we had 2 goldfish that we named Bert & Ernie.
When I was about 10 I found a baby turtle in our yard and raised it in a terrarium. I named him Stepped On since he had been almost stepped on.
As a teen we had a dog named Diamond. She was named after baseball diamond, but ironically she had a diamond shaped white patch on her back that my mother swears she didn't notice until after we named her.
