Crystals in the urine
My female cat has a tiny amount of crystals in her urine. She leaks tiny spots where ever she lays. The vet said to change to wet food. We do breakfast and lunch wet food then I put out some dry throughout the day for them to nibble on. We clean the box everyday. She is still leaving spots. What else can I do? Should I stop giving dry food altogether? Is there a special type of wet food I should get? I leave water out everyday and make sure it's clean, how else can I make sure she is drinking enough?

Re: Crystals in the urine
feed her royal canin urinary s/o wet food, no dry food, and take this extremely seriously... it can kill kitty if not managed properly

Re: Crystals in the urine
Did the vet check to make sure that something else isn't going on there? As the pp said, this can be really serious.

The vet said that it wasn't a UTI but gave her antibiotics anyway because she couldn't fine anything wrong with her and they did nothing. She said there was a very very tiny amount of crystals but nothing to be concerned about and that I should try switching to wet food. We first noticed this not long after she got fixed, around early August 2010. We didn't go to our normal vet for this because they were charging a ton so we went to this place in Bayshore called Island Rescue, they are cheaper and we had our male cat fixed there 2 years earlier and we had no issues, he even had a recessed testical, pink eye, ear mites, fight scars (we rescued him off the street and took him to this vet right away) and he was perfect after, no issues. Our regular vet said that since it was a low cost vet they could have done a quick surgery on her and left a piece of her business inside and that would cause bleeding once a month but it's not blood she's leaking, it's def urine. The vet said that the only other she could do was to open her up and check her surgery but it's going to cost a ton and I feel like that she's not bleeding, she's leaking urine. UGH

Re: Crystals in the urine
The crystals are prob forming bc you're cat isn't drinking enough water. I have found that they like circulating water more so maybe invest in a fountain for kitty. As said above, if it gets worse, the cat is going to need to go on special prescription food like royal canin urinary so. That food makes them more thirsty so they drink more.

Re: Crystals in the urine
Also, your cat prob isn't bleeding bc the blockage isn't bad just yet but it could go downhill quickly so just check for blood every day. As for the antibiotics, I found them useless. My cat was on it for 10 days and within a couple days, the pain was back. Thats when we switched to the special food and got a water fountain.
