"crystals" left in the bottle--is the formula bad?

about a month ago i posted a question about DS having "green" poop, lots of gas and being irritable. he uses similac advance and as soon as i switched to a new can when the old was empty, the symptoms went away.

that can left "crystals" coating the bottle after DS was done drinking it. it's as if the formula wasn't fully mixing into the water. the can was not even close to being expired. it's powdered formula.

i just opened another new can (these were both the free cans you get in the mail) and again the formula (powder) is not fully dissolving into the water! i stopped using the can and bought a new one (we're away on vacation) and will be calling similac monday morning.

is this normal? i don't know that the first can is what caused my son's symptoms, but i'm not taking any chances while we're away. this can also doesn't expire until 2011.

Are you using cold water? Sometimes I found formula didn't mix well if the water was cold....for me anyway.

Doesn't sound normal to me. I used the free cans too, but the formula would disolve and not leave any residue in the bottle when DD is finished.

Are you mixing directly in the bottle? I have always used a pitcher, and I shake for a good minute.... No clumps, no crystals, and my formula is ready for the day.

it is DEFINITELY this can of powder (and the other can was the same way.) i'm doing everything the same. as soon as i bought the new can, i used the same water and same bottles and they are fine.

it's no doubt that it's the can.

no one else has ever had this happen?
