When did your DC's start taking showers?
And for that matter, doing it themselves, washing hair etc? DD is 5 and she still loves her baths. I am not rushing her to "grow up" but just curious when she will be more independant in this area.

Re: When did your DC's start taking showers?
Both DDs by age 6. I still go in after DD#2, (about to be 6 yo), washes her hair to make sure it's rinsed properly before she puts conditioner in. Also, about 1x a week when we have more time she takes a bath so she can relax and play.
For some reason I still turn on the shower for DD1 who is 8 and 1/2! She's scared to turn it too hot. But she turns it off on her own.

Re: When did your DC's start taking showers?
My DD started taking showers at around 3.5 but with lots of help. Now she is 6 and she still needs some help to make sure that her hair is rinsed, so I may leave her alone in the bathroom but I am still in there every few minutes to make sure that she has rinsed all of her shampoo and conditioner out.
Some tips that help her to be more independent with her showering...When I get the water ready I also use those little plastic cups that you use to measure medicine in..and put shampoo/conditioner/body wash in them. I leave them on the shelf in the shower. THis way I know that she isn't gonna empty half of the bottle of body wash onto her washcloth or half the bottle of shampoo on her head.
I also give her 2 washclothes---one for washing, and one that she keeps dry to dry her face when she gets water/soap near her eyes because that really freaks her out.

DS was around age 7. DD is 5.5 and has taken a couple of showers, but she still prefers a bath. DS is 8.5 and fully independent in the shower.

Re: When did your DC's start taking showers?
i started DD#1 with showers at 2.5 when I was pregnant with DD#2. i had no choice, i just couldn't bend over !
i started to have DD#1 wash herself at 5. she still needs help getting the excess soap out of her hair, and i do need to hover to make sure she actually does wash and not play, but we are getting there...
both girls take showers now and have for a long time - they are 3 and 5.5

Re: When did your DC's start taking showers?
My older son (almost 7 now) started in K taking showers independently including washing his hair and all. He'd get double checks to make sure al soap was off and stuff but primarily on his own. He had taken showers planty of times before that but not on his own.
My 4 year old has been taking showers regularly also for about a year now. However, we wash him. He asks to do it himself but he isn't as diligent has his brother and pretty much only washes one private part of his body.
