Age wise questions/sorta Speech delay question about learning.

At 4 yrs old (pre -K) ( looking for all to answer, but defintly speech delayed kids)

-How 'high' could your child count?
-Could they recognize all the letters of the alphabet ( or approx. how many?)
-Could they recite the ABC song with minor mistakes or not well at all
-Could they recognize numbers and 1-10 or better?


And do you feel most of the learning was done at school or with you working with them at home to learn these things.

I can give you my answers, so at least someone replied but my DS is on the spectrum, and like many kids on the spectrum, even though he is speech delayed he had number, letter, shape and color recognition at an age earlier than usual. He could identify many of these things long before he could say them.

From what I see at his daycare, though, I would guess most 4 year olds can sing the alphabet song without too many mistakes, and do recognize numbers 1-10.

My son turned 3 in October. He has a pragmatic speech delay...so this might not help.
He can correctly count to 10. After that he repeats or skips numbers. He knows and can identify all the letters. He can mostly recite abc song. He recognizes 1-10 consistently. They work on this in the 3yo class but I think he learned it from us, team umizoomi and leap frog DVDs. Hth!

DS is 26 months and is mostly non-verbal with mild PDD-NOS. He can recognize all the letters of the alphabet if you point to them but will not independently recite them. Same goes for numbers 1-9 (ten is "one/ohhh"). He knows and can verbally label his colors.

His playmate who are neurotypical 2 1/2 y/o twins (and in my opinion very advanced) can sing the whole ABC song with no errors and known all their colors.

DS is 4 and is on the spectrum as well, and he is very verbal, now...

he can count very high
can spell and read

every child is different though.

he is more advanced then most of his typical 4 year old friends, so i don't want to really compare him

I have a 4 year old who received speech up until 6 months ago, this was his only developmental delay. He can count up to 30 from there he needs help I say 31 then he can count up to 40 then needs help there etc.. He can recognize all letters and pronounce their sounds. He can recite the abc song and could recognize numbers 1-13, needs help going further.

I feel it was equally a combination of preschool and home learning. I loved where he went for preschool and swear by the LeapFrog alphabet dvd I put on for him since 18 months. We are currently working on writing letters and numbers. He can fully write his first and last name.

DS is 3, and has been able to recognize all letters, colors, and #'s 1-10 since before he was 2 even though he couldn't say any words. At around 2, he started spelling words, but still didn't say the words, just spell them and make letter sounds. Just before he turned 3, he started speaking, he can count to 30, then needs help, like someone else said, and he can read.
