Positioning car seats

I am not sure if this is a silly question or not - but is there a reason to not have 1 car seat in the middle and 1 behind the passenger seat?

My DH just installed the car seats yesterday and we are both kinda feeling wonky with the driver's seat pulled closer forward to accommodate the infant car seat behind us. Naturally, if its the safest, we'll suck it up and deal, but I was just curious if there was a reason to not put them right next to each other?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Positioning car seats

When we had the twins we already had an almost 3 year old. We have a mini van so our set up is this:

DS (3) sits in the 3rd row behind the driver.
Twins are in each captains chair in the middle row (one behind the passenger side and one behind the drivers side).

Re: Positioning car seats

When we just had 1 she was in the middle.....when the twins came we put 3 in a row. I think you should put the car seats the way it works best for you. I will say that lifting an infant seat in and out of the middle becomes a struggle when the baby gets bigger.

Re: Positioning car seats

I had a car seat inspection and was told that it's actually better to have one in the middle and one behind the passenger side seat, BUT the middle of most backseats don't have enough room or don't have the right ability to latch the car seats in. My car didn't have the room...so just make sure you can still safely install the base in the middle.

Re: Positioning car seats

Thanks for the feedback! I think we're gonna try to move one to the middle but it did strike me that it may be a bit more difficult to reach across the seat to put a baby in the "middle" seat but it is definitely worth a shot!
