Dental Impant
Dental help please!!!! I have horrible teeth; and terrible terrible fear of dentists.... My problems start minor, out of fear I dont take care of them which in turn makes a bigger problem and so forth.... Latest issue: Was told 3 yrs ago to get a root canal on a molar.... the last molar (all the others have been pulled due to damage from wisdom teeth)on the top right side of my mouth... Oral surgeon says I cant just pull it- because then Ill have no molar up top on that side (still have the bottoms)... The implant is not covered by my insurance and will cost $1450- which was not an expense I anticipated.... Anyone have experience with this??? Is this implant necessary??? Is it painful??? Is it normally this expensive???? My insurance is covering the expense of the removal of the toother and putting me under in full- so I will be asleep- the implant itself is $1450.... Any advice/experince greatly appreciated!!!!

Re: Dental Impant
Just so you know- I had that same molar on top pulled years ago. I didn't want to spring for the implant- because YES they ARE that expensive and NO my insurance would not cover it either. So I left it alone. It's in the back so it's not visable. Nothing bad happened to my teeth. In fact, over time, the space has gotten smaller and smaller- I guess the other teeth shifted a bit to fill in the gap.
Just wanted to give you the other side- from someone had the same molar removed and just left it alone with no replacement.

Re: Dental Impant
Am I reading this right - you would be missing both molars on the upper right ? Missing both would interfere with the way you chew food. Impants are not covered by insurance because they are considered to be cosmetic. Is a partial plate (denture) an alternative to an implant ?

Re: Dental Impant
FYI ask your dentist if there any are other costs? 1.400 for one implant that's pretty regular price, but then you will still need a post ( abutment) and a crown or bridge and that may run you another $2-3K, plus ask if he will charge you to be sedated, they usually do.
And some insurances cover implants, depending on a policy, I know Guardian and some of MetLife polices cover implants.

My insurance coves the extraction, and the sedation just not the implant because its considered cosmetic....
I gotta find out about the other additional costs though, because the dentist and the oral surgeon said nothing to me about any of that!

Were you missing BOTH molars??? Because pulling this tooth would leave me NO molar on my upper left..???
