Anyone have any dental work or x-rays when pregnant?
I thought it might be best to ask my questions here...any help you can give would mean a lot
If you are just pregnant (early stages) or TTC is it okay to get dental x-rays? If you are TTC....is there a waiting time after hving dental x-rays before you should TTC?
Can you have novicane in the early stages of pregnancy?

Re: Anyone have any dental work or x-rays when pregnant?
I was told no x-rays and no sweet air. Novacaine is okay. And my doc said to try and wait to the 2nd trimester if possible.

I would just explain to your dentist your situation. I had an appointment while I was doing IVF and just told them everything and they told me what was safe and not etc.

Re: Anyone have any dental work or x-rays when pregnant?
Thank you both I had the x-rays yesterday and not pregnant but thinking of trying this month or next....not sure if I should wait longer.
The novacaine would be a return trip to work on my teeth...it's not an extreme so I thinking of holding off. I'll call my obgyn on Monday but it's heavy on my mind right now.
Especially that I had x-rays yesterday...maybe we should wait?

Re: Anyone have any dental work or x-rays when pregnant?
My OB said xrays and novacane are ok but best to wait until 2nd tri. I had a cleaning and cavity filled at 18wks. My dentist wasn't thrilled with doing xrays and used this funky high tech camera instead.
Not sure what the "rules" are when ttc though I'm sorry. I'm sure its better to get stuff done before getting pg, but if someone is in the 2ww or possibly pg, not sure.

I had xrays and FIVE cavaties filled a few weeks before my IVF transfer and they said that was fine.
Good Luck!

Thank you This is helping to calm me a bit. From what I've read I am thinking that for now I am going to hold off on the novacaine and scrapping that he needs to do on my bottom teeth.

When i when to the dentist i did everything without novicane. It did not hurt that bad. I just did not want the baby to get anything.

Re: Anyone have any dental work or x-rays when pregnant?
I had a boat load of cavities filled while we were TTC. I was going to the dentist 1x per week for about 4-5 weeks! There really is no risk if you get an X-ray or any other medication while TTC. But, just to be safe you might want to mention your situation to the dentist.

I'd like to support this also. I, for one, HATE going the dentist. But, I found one that I love who is wonderful. It is SO important to get your cleanings when you are pregnant. My dentist told me that they poor gums and/or dental problems that arise during pregnancy can be a sign of pre-term labor. Make sure you get your teeth cleaned, at the minimum, when pregnant.

If you think you could be pregnant you should not get x-rays.

My OB said two things were off limits to exposure - X-rays and radioactive dyes. I did have a cleaning though.

Re: Anyone have any dental work or x-rays when pregnant?
Hi Andrea!! I had xrays and novacane when I was 10 wks PG for a root canal. They just put about 3 of those vests over me for the xray and they used a different kind of novacane for me since i was pregnant.
BTW - Thanks again for everything!

I can't tell you, I've avoided the dentist during this pregnancy, I had a few scares. I hope my teeth don't fall out

Re: Anyone have any dental work or x-rays when pregnant?
Thanks so much everyone I really appreciate all of the info and fms - huge help!! Seems like all is good based on what I've read and heard now (for the ttc aspect) so I'll stop stressing about what has already happened and hold off on any more work until I know what's going on.
Thanks so much
