Need opinions about an interview
I have an interview in a district that is pretty much being given to me as a courtesy. I am currently an excessed teacher so I haven't interviewed in many years!
From my knowledge of how these things work, don't most districts know who they want for these positions already? They have to legally post these positions and maybe even interview a few though. I know of a few districts that usually have subs or leave replacements that are well received waiting to get jobs.
Opinions? Thanks!

Re: Need opinions about an interview
Sometimes they do and sometimes they dont...
The district that I'm in has a position open for an ABA specialist in one of the elementary schools. They insisted that ALL the special ed/ABA certified subs/TA's/leave replacements interview for the position, and didn't hire ANY of them! They're reopening the interviews in the hopes of finding someone that they think is a better fit.
Go into the interview as if you KNOW you're getting the position because you never know!!!
GOOD LUCK!

Re: Need opinions about an interview
Not true. I work for the "best" district in NYC and often my Principal cannot find a person. I interviewed there, not knowing anyone, no connections and got the job! GOOD LUCK

Re: Need opinions about an interview
I agree. I was excessed last year and interviewed at 3 districts last summer. I walked out of each interview thinking the job was mine bc it went so well...I think it is a legal thing that schools need to post the position but already know who is going to fill it. Also, now with all the excessing, teachers are on a call-back list for seven years so it is going to be even tougher to find a job...good luck!

Re: Need opinions about an interview
I've seen it happen many times. It happened to me (except luckily I was the leave replacement they had in mine- they were only interviewing others because they had to legally. My supervisor even told me this.). However, I don't think this is the case in every job posting. Although there are many subs and leaves in districts that I'm sure are given precedence over a new hire.

Re: Need opinions about an interview
Definitely not the case across the board. I just sat on an interview committee for my district and while we included some internal applicants, everyone was looked at equally. In fact, we hired all teachers from the outside! Quite a few (if not all?) were excessed from their current districts.

I appreciate everyone's input. Thank you. I guess I will just have to keep my fingers crossed and see what happens.
