Demo Lesson
I have a demo lesson coming up. I am a special education teacher and it will be for 1st and 2nd graders with autism. I was told they are high functioning. The topic is on Alaska with the focus on vocabulary development. The principal said she mainly wanted to see rapport with the students. She also wants a 15 min. read aloud or shared reading.
So far I was thinking..... 1. animals of Alaska 2. temperature of Alaska with a focus on Arctic
I was thinking about going into it with showing a map of Alaska and then showing pictures to spark an interest.
Any other ideas???

Re: Demo Lesson
Can you get your hands on some rookie readers? (pebble or any of those low level starter books.
There is also a book "20 degress below recess" or something like that - a school in Alaska that has outdoor recess up until 20 degrees below zero. link
can you bring in ice cubes to feel the temperature difference?
What a challenging topic to do over the summer!!
