Need some feedback
I watched Food Inc and Fork over Knife this weekend
so basically I am done with meat, dairy and chicken
given my own health issues- the fact my Mom died from a rare cancer and how heart issues are all over my family- I can't see this being a bad thing
BUT- I work in an industry where I go out for lunch or dinner more then once a week
and I am single and dating
I don't want to be the girl that only eats veggies- but I want to put my health first
My idea is to eat seafood only when I go out
and keep my house meat, dairy and chicken free
thoughts? good compromise?
ETA- I am diabetic- so ordering pasta when out is out of the question- same goes for rice or other carbs like that

Re: Need some feedback
Being vegan is a lifestyle choice and one that is good for you. As long as you don't start lecturing others on why they shouldn't eat meat, dairy, etc (and I don't see you as the type of person to do that), you'll be able to incorporate it nicely into your life. Are you worried about the perception others may have of you because you don't eat those things any more?
Eta I was a vegetarian and then vegan for a number of years so let me know if you have any questions.

Re: Need some feedback
I don't eat much meat, there's always something on the menu.
btw I just heard of a lawsuit against Monsanto for Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. I am tempted to join it for DS, but am kind of scared of them too!

Re: Need some feedback
IMO, yes, that is a good compromise.
Between having my first child and getting pregnant again, I was a vegan and I felt great (I have been a vegetarian for most of the last 20 years as well). When I was a vegan, eating out involved a lot of carbs, which I know you said isn't an option for you, so I think fish/seafood is a good compromise.
Right now, I am eating eggs, dairy and occasionally fish just bc I know I don't eat a ton of protein, and I want to make sure I am eating enough to grow a baby. I have been thinking about it a lot, and I think after I have this kid I am going to do exactly that--cut out diary and eggs, but leave in the occasional fish.
If you have any questions, LMK.

thanks....I just don't want to be the annoying girl that eats nothing
I do like fish- but I never liked cooking it
I would never lecture anyone- It's more about health for me then anything else

Need some feedback
I think that in a business dinner or lunch situation, no one would question you. If you're talking about someone you are on a date with, and they have an issue with how you eat, it's probably not someone you want to see again. And you're eating lots of things...just not animal products.

Re: Need some feedback
so far everyone I have told has been so supportive
and you can't argue with these facts
I am already sleeping better-
my blood sugar is so regulated- I wake up lower then when I go to bed- (that was rare for me before)
I am due for my period next week- and I lost a lb
I am not craving anything- I used to be a beast the week before my period- which sucks when you can't have sugar!
I feel full- I am not always looking for a snack
