Need help finding a home for a friend's dog
A friend of our family has a 4 year old schnauzer. His name is Scotty and he is very friendly and active.
She adopted him from NS Animal League aboout 6 months gao. She lives in a very small apartment in a senior citizen complex.
Scotty is a very active dog and really needs a yard to run around in. She is finding it hard to just take him for walks. She says he loves children and gets along with her cat.
If anyone is interested in adopting him, please FM me. She really oes not want to have to take him back to the shelter where she adopted him.
I am trying to attach some pics of him but I also have them in an album named Scotty.

I'm not going to comment beyond this: tell her to be careful because MOST if not all adoption agencies/shelters stipulate that you can NOT adopt the dog out or give it away, it MUST be brought back to the shelter. This is typically in the contract one signs when adopting....so be sure to check about that.

I'm not going to comment beyond this: tell her to be careful because MOST if not all adoption agencies/shelters stipulate that you can NOT adopt the dog out or give it away, it MUST be brought back to the shelter. This is typically in the contract one signs when adopting....so be sure to check about that.
I've adoped two dogs from NSAL and this is the case there... Its in the contract that is signed.
As well, NSAL does do follow up /check ups... If she can no longer care for the dog, she needs to bring it back to North Shore.

Huh. When we adopted an aggressive dog from North Shore (A chow mix for a family of 5  ) back before we became more informed about dogs, NSAL REFUSED to take her back!
But our collie mix, they did do two unannounced check ups to make sure he was okay. They even asked to see him.
ETA: They refused to take her back even after my brother and sister nearly lost an eye each! We eventually had to give her up to a rescue, at our own cost.

This is the same case. When she adopted the dog, the lady at the shelter told her she could not bring him back there . I am not 100% sure it was NS Animal League though.
Anyway, she went in to actually adopt a smaller dog and the woman told her that he was alraedy given to another family but she had, Scotty. They really should not have given a young, energetic dog to a senior citizen that is not great on her feet.

Honestly that sounds very odd that they would place a dog well known for being energetic, and so young, with an elderly woman without a home or yard.
I suggest trying Schnauzer rescue.

There was someone on here who was thinking about a schnauzer. I will fm her and see if she replies.
Either way, this dog needs to be CAREFULLY placed AND/OR returned to the shelter if that is their policy. Schnauzers have very specific needs, some are not good with children, they are very high energy, etc.

Thank you. I will look in to the rescue website that you posted.
Thw woman who has the dog loves him so much and is heartbroken about having to give him up but feels she was not given any info on him. She is afraid that if she does bring him back to another shelter he may be euthanized.

I find it very upsetting that a rescue refuses to take back a dog they placed? Is this a fact? I am shocked.. I am so sorry your friend had such a bad experience .. I hope she considers adopting again maybe from a different place.. I would love to know where she did adopt that Schnauzer.. Very bad situation.. They should know better than to put such a high energy dog in a home like hers.. Now she tried to do a good thing and it went south! I hate these stories!!!!!!!

I dont have any advice about the schnauzer but wanted to add: My bff fosters dogs all the time in d.c.; this way potential adopters can learn much more from her directly about temperament, quirks, etc. Its like try before you buy; i suggest if your friend is going to try again at some point she can go on petfinder to see dogs in foster homes.
