I did it the opposite way but I had to do it. I realized (on my 6th year) that it never transferred. I had to fill out some forms and sent it inl.

You have to do it, I think it is just a form you have to fill out.

TRS question - going from LI district to NYC
I was going to post the same question. The most important thing is that I keep my tier 4 since my membership date is 9/2009!! I didn't realize transferring was mandatory so I guess my question is answered.
