Grasping at straws WWYD****UPDATE

I am thinking about contacting my OB tomorrow for a second opinion about this not being a viable pregnancy. If you think I have lost my mind please feel free to tell me but here are my reasons:
When I went for my first sono on August 2nd there was a gestational sac, fetal pole, and yolk sac. The embryo was measuring 6wk2d and the RE who did the sono did not see a heartbeat and told me to come back in a week.
As I posted on here I was a nervous wreck but many people told me that it could have been to early. The angle that he had the wand in to see anything was far from comfortable but I didn't think much of it.

So this past Friday I returned for sono #2 with my RE, I was hopeful because my symptoms had increased over the week, with constipation and other tummy troubles, joining in. When she performed the sono she had a hard time finding the gestational sac and said that it may be in the corner of my uterus. The sono machine kept beeping and making noises and she complained to DH and I how the machine had been acting up all day and was making strange noises whenever they tried to take measurements. At the time I didn't much of it but she didn't take any measurements. She printed out a copy for my file and told me that it looked like the embryo hadn't grown or changed from the previous week. She talked to me about the possibility she could be missing something, and wanted to test my hcg. She said that at week 6 hcg would be about 6,000, and figured that my hcg, at 7wk3d, should be at 45,000. If it was around there she would send me to a radiologist for another sono. If not, she said I should stop all meds, and wait for a natural miscarriage or I could schedule a D & C for the following Thursday.

I left there numb and shocked. Later on that morning, they called and said my hcg was only at 14,000 and to go ahead and stop all meds. I asked about the D & C and was told they would call me Monday to talk about it further, and if I am in extreme pain over the weekend to go to the ER. So, I did as told and stopped all meds.

Now three days later I am wondering if we threw in the towel too early? Of course I have been looking up hcg levels on-line and 14,0000 is within range for weeks 7-8. Then I'm thinking about how her sono machine was acting up and she didn't even take measurements. Also, she put the wand in and didn't really move it around much. I have a tilted uterus, which I read can make the tiny little embryo difficult to see, and she was saying it could be tucked in the corner. Also, wouldn't you do another sono or beta check to see if anything is progressing? To see everything one week, and the next week no growth, but hcg tests within range, wouldn't you do one more sono and one more hcg check just to be sure.

Tell me girls am I looking for hope in a hopeless situation, or should I call my OB tomorrow and ask for an appointment before I schedule this D & C for Thursday? I'd rather see my OB because at this point. One for a different sono machine, and two for a second opinion.
As for symptoms things haven't changed much but I do have a lower backache once in awhile. No spotting or cramps. WWYD

***UPDATE*** Thank you all for your honest opinions and support. I have an appointment for bloodwork tomorrow morning to check hcg levels before they will schedule a d & c. They honored my request for a sono on Wednesday for some peace of mind. I also have an appointment with Dr. Braverman in mid September for a fresh perspective on my situation. I have 4 frosties but I hesitate to transfer any until I know that I don't have other health issues that are keeping me from carrying a baby. Again ladies Thank you!!!

if you are questioning things i would never say no dont get a second opinion. you dont want to ever be left regretting not getting another opinion - it does not hurt ANYTHING to get it.

that being said, you should have seen a heartbeat and exponential growth by now. i would say you probably are grasping at straws and things don't seem to be in your favor. however, that really shouldn't stop you from getting a second opinion considering the factors you mentioned. i dont have experience with d&c but i know many girls get sonos to check one last time before the procedure. i know of one girl (i think it was sunflowerjess) who went in to get a d&c and they found 2 heartbeats and now she has healthy twins. so it is possible and it cant hurt to get another sono. however you HAVE to also be realistic about the fact that this may not end well. its ok to hold on to the glimmer of hope - its totally natural. but dont put all of your stock in it, just hope for the best. good luck with whatever you do!!! Do what makes you feel comfortable. Call your OB, call your RE again. It's your body and you have every right to know and be sure. Both doctors should understand that.
I've had more d&cs than I like to share, fm me if you have any questions.

I have had several losses and I really feel for you.

I was blindsided by my first loss bc I had seen the hb several times. I wanted reassurance as well bc the d&c is such a final procedure, so I ended up requesting a sono at the hospital right before my d&c. There was no heartbeat, I knew for sure that it was over, and I felt better going into the operating room.

I just went through this a couple of weeks ago and I'm sorry you are dealing with this. To be honest, there should be a resounding heartbeat at this point, your numbers should be much higher at this point and as I was told nothing good will come out of this even if you wait. With that said, you should do whatever you are comfortable with and whatever brings you peace with this situation but I do think your grasping at straws. Again so sorry!

I agree with the other ladies. If you're second guessing, then get another opinion. It can't hurt to ease your mind.

But I do want to add that it's not the hcg number that's important but the increase. At 7 weeks your doubling time will have slowed dramatically from what it was at week 4, but it should have drastically gone up from the previous week. My 7w1d hcg was 92k.

I wouldn't go forward without getting a second opinion. I'm not saying that you are grasping at straws or that you have a good chance. I'm saying that you will always wonder and I don't think this is something anyone should wonder about.

ABSOLUTELY ABSOLUTELY ABSOLTUTELY!!!!!!!!!

When I was 6 weeks (and change) prego (with 2) by 7 weeks there was only 1, (my Thomas)...I went at 7w_d and there was a baby and a heartbeat...Hcg was taken was fine (4,000ish)....I went back a few days later...NO BABY, NO HEARTBEAT and my HCG had stabilized.... I was DEVISTATED!!!!!! Scheduled my D&C for 2 days later....

As I walked into RE office my Dr. asked why I was there, with tears in my eyes I said "Its Over, Im getting a D&C" she took me into the sono room and did a sono....AGAIN, NO BABY, NOTHING...(TVS mind you) WELL, she then took the ULTRA SOUND WAND and pushed on my stomach SO HARD while doing a TVS and guess what????

YUP!!!!! BABY flippling and swimming around with a HEART BEAT!!!! I have a retroverted uterus (more then tilted) and the baby was on the other side!!! Can you imagine!?!?!?!? I asked about the HCG numbers and THE LAB SCREWED THEM UP bc they had gone from 4,000-10,000 when they retested them that day...

ANYTHING is possible!!!! I dont think your crazy at all....GO BACK and DEMAND they do it again and retest your blood...
I was in the same situation and THANK GOD I DID!!!!

I feel you should have a second opinion based on the fact that you have a tilted uterus. You never know but at the same time I would just prepare for not so good news so you are at least be prepared.

i would just like to add that there is no "normal" when it comes to HCG levels. I was always on the low end so if I had seen your Dr. he probably would have told me to have a D & C based on numbers alone. they vary so drastically from person to person and looking online does not help! at 7w my HCG levels were only at 19K well below the 45K your Dr. thought was normal, but here i am 14w and counting and my LO is growing fine. Every woman and embryo is different and will give off different amounts of HCG that are normal for them, not normal for the standard.
