One baby measuring ahead of the other?

I am 28w4d and went today for another growth sonogram. Baby A is measuring about 3lbs 8oz and all of his/her measurements were that of a baby that is 30/31 weeks. Baby B is about 2 lbs 15oz and is measuring at about 28/29 weeks. The sono tech definitely saw the difference (with Baby A at 85% and Baby B at 53%) but couldn't elaborate because she can't give results. Did anyone have discrepancies between babies? I assume one will be larger than the other, but I'm a little concerned that one is a half pound bigger than the other.

I have twins that are fraternal 10 1/2M. My guys were also different weights. 1/2 lb is not alot. If they are fraternal also, please remember they are siblings & they will gain weight differently. my guys were born 6 ozs apart & are now 7lbs apart. If it was anything serious the Drs would have notified you immediately. Best Wishes to you!! I think you are doing GREAT!!

My twin boys were born at 34.5 weeks due to IUGR (interuterine growth retardation) with Baby B. He was born at 3lbs 14oz and his brother wa 5lbs 7oz.

Re: One baby measuring ahead of the other?

Are you pregnant with identical or fraternal twins?

I have identical and there was a point in the very beginning where Baby A was measuring larger than B and they were concerned I was displaying signs of TTTS (twin to twin transfusion syndrome). Within a couple of weeks things evened out and I was fine.

The babies consistently measured A bigger then B by a few ounces. Until I went for a growth sono at 37w2d. Baby B had gained like half a pound since my previous sono and A had stayed exactly the same. They decided to deliver them that day. Both super healthy just almost 2 pounds of a weight difference.

Thanks for your replies, girls Chat Icon I am pregnant with fraternal twins (don't know the sexes). I'm not overly concerned but the sono tech showed a little concern yesterday and I know my doctor said it was something we would "watch". I see him again tomorrow so I guess I'll ask him then.

Re: One baby measuring ahead of the other?

Just wanted to wish you good luck tomorrow! I went for a growth sono a week ago and the tech told me they only really get concerned if its more than 1lb difference between the weights since they are averages. Hope that helps!

Re: One baby measuring ahead of the other?

My girls were delivered early because the size difference kept getting larger. One was always measuring larger but around 34 weeks the difference kept increasing I was being monitored weekly so I was getting sonos weekly. I went in for one and was told to pack my bags because they wanted to take them out that night.

My girls were always about a pound a part. The sono is not exactly the most accurate thing in the world either. They were also almost a pound less at birth than the sonos measured. I wouldn't worry at all. They are fraternal, you are having two separate pregnancies at the same time. As long as each one is growing appropriately enough to sustain its individual life then I wouldn't worry.

The doctors worried me a lot with one of my girls sacs being smaller than the other. At one point I asked him if the smaller sac was enough to sustain her life. He said yes and I stopped worrying. They are two different people in there with two separate sets of genes. One of my girls is small and light colored like me. She also has my temperament. The other is bigger and darker like her dad and she also has his temperament. They are two totally different babies. They have different sleeping patterns, different coping skills.

Don't let them get you too worked up, I know it's easier said then done though :O)

my twins always measured about 1/2 lb apart. i had a lot of growth sonos to make sure baby a didn't all of a sudden get a lot bigger than baby b, but they were consistently that far apart.
they were born 1lb 1oz aprt

Re: One baby measuring ahead of the other?

Mine have been pretty close. A day apart then 1-3 oz apart. I'm sure the Dr. would have said someting if it were an issue.
