Christmas Gifts for Older Kids?
So this year is going to be REALLY tight financially, but I still want to make sure my boys have a decent Christmas.
They are older, and it seems like EVERYTHING they want is electronic but we just do not have the money for Kindles and iThings or whatever else.
We already bought Noah a Snap Circuits set because he loves those and we're considering a cheap metal detector for them. Any other ideas for relatively inexpensive things that they might enjoy?
Robbie is 11, very serious and a little bit of an egghead He likes science & math, disllikes reading unless it's sci-fi or fantasy or adventure. He likes the Mindstorms Legos but they are insanely priced. He's less interested in other Lego sets these days. He loves video games, but we've restricted them a lot so I want to avoid going that route. He also desperately wants Airsoft guns and doesn't even want the ammo.. just the gun for pretend play but I refuse. My son running around with a realistic looking gun is just disturbing for me.
Noah is 9 and is a full on menace. He like aggravating his brother, talking out of turn and rolling his eyes. He also likes Nerf Melee weapons but it feels like they have every type known to mankind.
Give me some creative ideas please!!

Would they be ok with last year's model of the item? Perhaps you can get a better deal on them? Alternatively if they know, I would say to them would you rather get one thing (expensive) or a couple of items that are less expensive? Could you talk with grandparents and go in on one gift?

I'm only planning on 2 or 3 things each regardless. Budget is 100 MAYBE 150 at most for each of them so there really isn't ANY room for last years models on anything. The grands don't really spend much at all on my children because they aren't the favorites so I wouldn't feel comfortable asking them to chip in anyway.
They aren't going to be left in the cold.. my family is going to buy them stuff.. but I want to make sure that whatever they get on Christmas morning from "Santa" (my younger son still believes) has a nice little impact.
I just can't seem to think of ANYTHING that is cool!!

Rush Hour Lego makes a minecraft box of legos but prices vary widely so search if that is something they would like. Razor scooter Stomp Rocket
I would look at fatbrain toys to get an idea for older kid toy ideas. HTH

Re: Christmas Gifts for Older Kids?
Thank you guys! We actually have a LOT of mindware and fat brain stuff. We also have a ton of Dover books and Aerobie and Ravensburgher and Anomia! But it's totally given me some inspiration! Thank you so much for the suggestions! :)
