Miscarriage after Pap...
Hi girls,
At 5 weeks 2 days, I went to see my OBGYN for another issue on Friday. He decided to do a pap since I was due for it. On Sunday I started experiencing cramping and burning and passed several clots and started to have a period like flow (sorry for TMI). I went in yesterday for bloodwork and results came back as my numbers being low. He said I was basically miscarrying.
Although he said and I've read that it's not possible, I can't help but feel that I should have never had the pap done. Anyone ever have this experience?
How long do they recommend to wait to TTC again?
TIA

Re: Miscarriage after Pap...
I had a pap when I was 10wks and my dr said it's required that you have one while pregnant. I lost my baby at 17wks but it was DEFINITELY unrelated to the pap.
Speak to your dr about how long to wait to try again, but when I had a loss that early it was 1 month.
I'm so sorry

Re: Miscarriage after Pap...
We were only told to wait 1 cycle after my mc. We got pregnant on the first try and I am currently in my 3rd trimester with a healthy pregnancy. I was definitely nervous but at the same time, very ready to try again.
Good luck!!

Re: Miscarriage after Pap...
Thank you girls for your encouragement! Went for my second set of bloodwork and those numbers came back even lower.
I am just anxious to move on and try again, but the nurse said they will continue to monitor my blood for another week or two. Is it safe for me to TTC? She said she isn't sure if it will lead to a D & C.

Re: Miscarriage after Pap...
I had a mc and issues after a pap also and while I read and was told that it is unrelated, when I did get pregnant I refused the pap until after I delivered. It's your body and your choices, not required. Sorry for your loss

Re: Miscarriage after Pap...
I'm so sorry for what you went through...
And you are right, there is nothing that happened during the pap to cause a miscarriage.
The embryo is imbedded in the uterine wall, way beyond where the culture is taken for a pap. And if you think about it, there are so many invasive things done to our bodies while pregnant..internals, transvaginal ultrasounds etc..these wouldn't be done if doctors thought they would harm the baby.
That isn't to say I don't completely understand your nerves. You've been through an upsetting thing...but sending you lots of good thoughts for a baby asap...

Re: Miscarriage after Pap...
PS-Since you miscarried naturally and early on, honestly I would TTC again as soon as you feel ready..of course everyone will have a diff theory but my doctor told me it was fine to try whenever I wanted (and this was after ectopic removal surgery). With me she wanted to see one cycle post surgery which wasn't a problem since it took me 2 weeks to feel better...
