Christmas Eve dinner ideas
It's just going to be me, DH, and the kids, but he wants fish. I already know I'm going to make a fra diavolo sauce with mussels, clams, etc, and I will make salmon as well, plus pasta.
I need ideas for a side dish - MIL typically makes stuffed escarole but that's too much work for me.
I also want to make a "fishy" appetizer. DH's uncle makes some kind of cold octopus salad every year (sorry I don't know what it's called) which DH loves but I am not doing that, no way, sorry 
Other than shrimp cocktail, any ideas? TIA!

You can do stuffed mushrooms. I've seen it done with crab.

As a side, how about a simple sauteed green with garlic and lemon, like escarole, broccoli rabe or spinach?

Lump crabmeat cocktail, crab cakes - love the mussels ideas too. Or you could do clams oreganata or some other kind of baked clam.
I also like the sauteed greens idea, or you could do stuffed artichokes.
