Nope, not too early. I got my period at the end of 5th grade, and had been getting pubic hair, armpit hair, etc, sice about the end of 3rd grade. It's on the earlier side of normal but I think still within the normal range.

It sounds like early puberty to me too. Has she shot up in height yet? I was told that was a sign that they'll be getting their period soon. My co-worker's daughter got her period when she was 9.

I hadn't heard about the teeth being a sign though. That's interesting.

She's TINY!! she's on the lower spectrum of height and weight. I know that the larger sized child will hit puberty earlier. She doesn't have a lick of fat on her body, and kids her age tower over her. She's a pip-squeak!!

I will still make appt with doctor because internet says it's a good idea anytime puberty is approaching!

WAHHHHH!

Re: girls and pubic hair - what age?! I am disturbed

My daughter started having pubic hair at age 7. It was disturbing to say the least. She also started with Body Odor in 1st grade. When we went to the doctor they advised we could go for an x-ray of her wrist to determine if her bone age indicated early puberty, however, the only solution to it would be hormone therapy, so we decided the x-ray was unnecessary as we would not give her hormones. She also told us that she could remain like that for years, and it wasn't necessarily an indication that menstruation was imminent. She is now 8.5 and no period yet. Dr. also told us that we should be aware of when she gets breast buds as that is generally a precursor to menstruation.

Hope that helps!

I have heard the teeth correlation before, and I think so far it holds true, at least for my son. He got his teeth late, and has lost them late (still losing some) and started puberty later than the majority of his peers (13).

My DD got her teeth late, so we'll see what happens with her

My sister was LATE - 15 years! She was tall, skinny and had to get 9 baby teeth pulled at 13 for braces. Maybe the teeth thing has some truth?

My DD is 8 1/2. No body hair or body odor, but she has been getting pimples since about 6. Her teeth fell out late. Still needs to loose 12 more.

I brought her to an Endocrinologist and they did the wrist x ray. They also tested her thyroid.

Pro active keeps her skin in check.
