Preschool? Nursery School?
Hello, Our son & daughter (twins) just turned 5 months and we are thinking about the future. My husband & I went to nursery school and then kindergarten. We are unsure of what to do with our twins. Is pre-k necessary if you are sending your children to nursery school as well as mommy & me classes and the Little Gym? What is usually done? Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Re: Preschool? Nursery School?
i would think if you send them to nursery school, then you would send them to pre-k, that is the next year of schooling, why would you skip the year and then send them to kindergarden, unless i am wrong in my interpretation of what nursery school is
usually you go to nursery, then prek then k

Preschool? Nursery School?
I guess I am confused. I was under the assumption that pre-k came before nursery school and then kindergarten followed. Now, if you send your child to pre-k is nursery school necessary? My husband is a stay at home dad and is with my twins all day. Thanks for your help.

Re: Preschool? Nursery School?
*At about 9mo, I started Music Together with my DS. It's a 45 minute session 1x a week and he loved it. Around the same time, we started at Gymboree. We've done a bunch of similar activities... Little Gym, Library Classes, etc. We are currently in a Mommy & Me program at the same school that he will attend Nursery and PreK. He just turned 2 and will start Nursery school at St. Brigid's (in Westbury) in September. We will likely do that for 2 years, then PreK, then Kindergarten. I wouldn't skip a year... If you are going to do to Nursery (2-4yo), I would continue on to PreK at age 4 and then Kindergarten. That way your LOs will get used to the structure/discipline that the school provides.

no nursery comes before pre-k generally its age 3 nursery age 4 pre-k age 5 kindergarden
so if they go to nursery it wouldnt really make sense to skip pre-k you don't have to send them to nursery, you could just send them starting with pre-k, nursery is definitely not necessary
my girls will be 3 in may, right now they go to gymboree, mommy and me stuff in sept they will go to nursery school at the school near me, it is 2 1/2 hrs 2x a week,

Re: Preschool? Nursery School?
My twins started a 2yo nursery school. They go three mornings a week and LOVE it. They paint, do crafts, play w/ the other kids.
It is definitely not necessary to send your kids to nursery school that young. It's a personal choice.

Re: Preschool? Nursery School?
My twins started preschool this year. They are in a 3 year old class. Next year they will be in prek through the school district, and then kindergarten the following year.
