How do you show regression?
If the criteria for getting summer services is showing regression, how exactly do you? Is me saying it enough? Is it just the teacher saying regression is noted upon return from a break?
thanks everyone....guess i better diligently look for camp....

Re: How do you show regression?
From what I understand...regression after a weekend or school break must be documented by your child's teacher. It isn't as simple as an anecdotal or parent report. They need to provide statistics/data regarding specific skills and behaviors that have changed after a period of time, however short, where your child did not receive services.

also it needs to show 1-2 weeks of learning the skill back to where it was.
so he cant go in on Monday and loose a skill but by days end have mastered it again. it needs a solid week or so to show the regression

Re: How do you show regression?
It's very technical and has to be backed up by strong stats. They are very strict about this. Your son's therapists/teachers should have attended a workshop in this.
Last year, during my daughter's CPSE meeting after all her following year's services were determined, we couldn't "complete" the meeting because some of her teachers/therapists didn't fill out her regression form properly. We had to meet again. The CPSE chair was more than willing to give summer services but she had to have the paperwork be done within the proper guidelines. The therapists had to do whatever they could to squeeze the data (kwim ?) to make it work. This year my daughter has many of the same therapists so from day one (hurricane sandy) data was collected and regression was already being documented ..
They essentially took two IEP goals and proved the adequate regression.
The premise is that all kids regress a bit during a summer, but your child's regression has to be so significant that it surpasses what's "typical". The funny thing is,...summer break is about 8 weeks, all school breaks are about one week.

Re: How do you show regression?
I always like to show that if my student did not receive the 6 week summer session, it would take longer than 6 weeks to regain the skills that would have been lost. I bring graphs of the student's data to the CSE
