Re: Why Women Should Not Run... Thought this was interesting
I don't know...I'm not sure who these woman are that the article refers to but, when I was a regular runner I was in KICK ASS shape - best shape of my life. All the moms I know that run - their bodies are awesome. That's enough for me!

Re: Why Women Should Not Run... Thought this was interesting
What I took away from it is:
- The seemingly popular idea among many women that doing static cardio - where you run at a constant pace or use the elliptical for 30-60 minutes at a time - is not an effective plan to lose fat and gain muscle.
- Variety is not only a more effective way to lose fat, it builds a more diverse, muscular, stronger body and that should be our focus.
- Running is enjoyable but may not be as good for you as you think, and shouldn't be your only tool for weight loss (if that is your goal).
As far as these go, I agree. But I don't run for the sake of running or besting my last time, I'm just not really driven in that way. Although I do enjoy it, I don't get tunnel vision when it comes to planning my exercise.
For building muscle and cardio health, I still use a variety of different things, and I find exercise videos like Insanity and Jillian Michaels have provided me much greater success than running alone.

I would have loved for the author of this article to explain then, what would be the effective way to lose weight...

The problem is that too many women do cardio only, don't do intervals and don't strength train. Running is a great bonus exercise, it should not be one's main source.
I agree with this 100% I stopped going to the gym and workout at home now but when I went, every day I saw the same people on the treadmill and doing nothing else. For me, this would never work. I need more to build muscle. I could probably step up my cardio but when I do it, I go b@lls to the wall. HIIT for me is the BEST. Other than that, I do different interval or circuit training everyday.

Re: Why Women Should Not Run... Thought this was interesting
I feel good when I run regularly. I believe that weight loss is 90% diet, 10% fitness. It doesn't matter what I am doing - I can NOT eat as if I'm working out!!!
I haven't had a good run in a while. I am revamping my routine and beginning my running again in May. I miss it.
I don't care what it does to Jessica.

Re: Why Women Should Not Run... Thought this was interesting
I love articles that tell you how bad running is, but offer no alternative.
I also love articles that assume that all runners run just for weight loss sake.
Further, I love the assumption that running causes thyroid issues. You know, you can't possibly think that thyroid issues stem from other causes!?!
I admit, I started running for weight loss. Not anymore. I run because I love to run. I love running because it is more effective than Xanax and anti-depressants. I run because it helps me sleep. I run because overall, my health has been better.
Oh, and my calves are now spectacular
