Anyone taking (or already took) clerk typist exam
Is anyone taking the Suffolk County clerk typist civil service exam on Saturday? My SIL and I are! We'd appreciate some advice...having trouble finding answers on the CS website.
How long is the exam? Are you allowed to bring a calculator? Can you have water or snacks with you (SIL is pregnant, needs her water and crackers and gingersnaps, lol)? What do you need to bring to the testing site?
Thanks for your help! To anyone taking the exam...good luck!

I took a few civil service exams in the past and I always had water and snacks on my desk. Nobody ever said anything. They should tell you in the paperwork if your particular test allows a calculator. Mine allowed it. #2 pencils are a must. Bring photo ID. Good luck!

Has anyone gotten a job by taking these tests?
My sister did, she also got calls for other jobs at the same time (she took a few tests), but that was like 7 yrs ago, I recently (1 yr ago) took one, and got a good score, and never heard :(
My cousin also got many jobs this way yrs ago too.
Haven't heard much success recently!

Anyone taking (or already took) clerk typist exam
Thanks for your replies, much appreciated!
Does anyone know how long the test runs? Is it an all day event?
Do they give you enough time to complete it? IOW, do I have time to think about an answer, or is it more of a race through and answer quickly exam?
TIA!

Anyone taking (or already took) clerk typist exam
Hi, I took the examiner 1 test a few years ago and got the job. I've been working there ever since. I've also taken a few other civil service tests. The tests are generally 4 hours long. My advice is read the questions and directions very carefully. Def dont race through it. Part of the test is that they make sure you read directions and answer the questions on the directions you read. Good luck!

Anyone taking (or already took) clerk typist exam
Thanks again for all of the advice! I got called back for the typing test. I've been practicing my fingers off...it's been so long since I've timed at a keyboard. Hoping this all works out!

Re: Anyone taking (or already took) clerk typist exam
I took the clerk typist test a long time ago. How did the typing test go. I remember not doing well at all because they did the test on a typewritter and I kept typing off the page instead of hitting return

Anyone taking (or already took) clerk typist exam
Hi everyone, took the typing test this morning...and passed! It was in Hauppauge, at one of the govt buildings behind the police precinct.
There were about 12 of us total in the room. It was quiet, except for the sound of typing, lol. The instructor had us all do a practice test first, using those results, you can gauge yourself for the real test.
You need to type 30 wpm with less than 7 (I think) errors.
It was done on a computer...no need to hit return...
Good luck to all of those taking the test!

What was the typing test like? Paragraphs, names and addresses? I cant find anything that gives you a clue.
