Anyone have their child repeat kindergarten?
My DS is 3.5 and and in an integrated pre-school class because he has a significant speech delay. the 2013-2014 School year is his last year of getting services, then he is eligible to start kindergarten. I'm hedging because he was born late in the year and has the speech delay. Has anyone had their child enroll in kindergarten and repeat it so as not to lose special services? I am also posting this on the Children with Special Needs board.

Anyone have their child repeat kindergarten?
Why would this be his last year to receive CPSE services? Wouldn't he have another year in preschool for his 4 year old program and then start Kindergarten the following Sept right before he turns 5?

if he is 3.5 now for th2 2012-2013 school year, he remains in CPSE for another year.... he is NOT eligible for CSE until 2014-2015.

2013-2014 begins next fall, so that is the child's "pre-k" year.
So K is 2014-2015
Repeating K is 2015-2016. That seems REALLY far away to even consider making a call regarding holding the child back. I would see how the child progresses in K, then make a decision.

From my perspective his last year of CPSE services for pre-k is this September which is 2013 then January is 2014. He will be 5 the end of 2014 ... cut of date is 12/31 for our school district. Do you understand?

I think what your looking to do is hold him back in pre-k an extra year, not repeat K. Either way, it is way to early to even be thinking about that. Kids make so much progress month to month, he may be in a totally different place next June than he is right now. I would wait and then depending on the situation, think about an extra year then.

A LOT can change, a LOT in that time frame. At 3.5 my son had selective mutism. He would not speak to peers or teachers in school and his utterances were 2-3 words to us and Dr's etc. He had severe anxiety and I was scared honestly for his future.
He started Kindergarten 3 mnths after turning 5 and was almost a different kid. That yr and a half changed him. It took a LOT of work, but he is doing amazing in Kindergarten now. I would not think that far ahead ....too many variables.
Also, repeating Kindergarten would be like someone mentioned the 2015-2016 school yr. That's eons away in terms of development for kids this age.
