Has anyone had their child repeat kindergarten?
My DS is 3.5 and and in an integrated pre-school class because he has a significant speech delay. the 2013-2014 School year is his last year of getting services, then he is eligible to start kindergarten. I'm hedging because he was born late in the year and has the speech delay. Has anyone had their child enroll in kindergarten and repeat it so as not to lose special services? I am also posting this on the Children with Special Needs board.

Re: Has anyone had their child repeat kindergarten?
My 8 year old repeated K. Honestly it was harder on him than I thought it would be. However, he actually started 1st grade for 2 weeks when his teacher spoke to us. Really he should never have been pushed forward in the first place. I cannot tell you how many times I asked the K teacher if she really thought he was going to be ok in first grade. On paper it looked like he would be.
He is also a late birthday and received OT services at the CPSE level but was discharged upon entering School age level. He is now back in special Ed and doing really well be cause he is getting the help he needs.
My twins are even later birthdays with speech delays. I sent them to K this year and they have done so well. They will move on to 1st grade in a 12:1;1 class. Their birthday is 10/29 but were due in Dec. so some kids are a whole year older.
Had my older son Received the services he needed at the K level, he probably wouldn't have needed to be held back.
I feel it's difficult to get a child held back and if he gets the right services when entering the system he may just be ok.

like i said on the other board. your DS is not eligible for CSE until next year. he is 3.5 so he remains in CPSE for another year. he cannot start Kinder (CSE) until 2014-2015. even if he doesnt qualify for services, he is too young for K. if he was born anywhere from January 2009-December 1, 2009 than he has 1 more year of CPSE aka pre-k
