Game of Thrones Discussion- CONTAINS SPOILERS
I know with the series back on TV, I'm jumping out of my skin excited. Anyone who's read all five books wan to start a discussion thread?? Theories?
STOP HERE IF YOU HAVE NOT READ PAST WHERE THE SHOW IS.....
I think I'll just start with the interesting decision this past week to have Robb Stark's wife reveal that she's pregnant. I know this was hinted at in the books but it was never confirmed. This changes things up quite a bit now. I think this was one of the most significant shifts they've shown. I wonder if this is going to be the reason why he leaves her home when he goes to TRW (The Red Wedding)?

ahhh, i'm so glad you posted this! Can i tell you how much i'm enjoying seeing the show because there are a ton of things i think i missed while reading the books, and the show is helping clear things up and refresh my memory!
What do you mean who do we think Mellisandre really is? She's a power hungry witch is what i take her to be.. do you think she's someone else? I'd love to hear your theories

R+L=J means Rhaegar+Lyanna=Jon Snow. Meaning Jon Snow is the most perfect heir to the Iron Throne.

I think you put a lot more thought into this than I did because you're asking about things I don't remember or didn't really think about 
So The Blood Raven... can you jog my memory about who he is? I mean I looked up his bloodline but where did he make an appearance that I'm forgetting about?
As far as Jon Snow's parents, it never occurred to me that Ned Stark wasn't his real father! But do you remember there's a wench in a little town somewhere - I think it was where they had the traitors strung up in the center of the town in cages - and she seemed to either know something about Jon Snow or insinuated that she was his mother? It's been so long, I can't remember.

I'm so glad to see this thread!
Melissandre really confuses me bc is she really good? I'm thinking she might just be. If darkness brings out the others, then she may just be good. Who knows?
I am dying to find out what happens in the next book. Catelynn is definitely someone that I keep thinking and thinking about. I'm pretty sure she was brought back to life, and is now the woman who was going around passing judgement and having people hanged. I do really love the show, but the books are just amazing.

Now that you brought that up... Didn't Robb write a decree or something with the Stark seal that leaves Winterfell to Jon Snow in case of his death? I thought I remembered Catelyn freaking out about that but it was already done and sent to someone.
I want to know if Robb is a zombie out there somewhere like Catelyn is. I hope when they get to that, they do her description justice because Tyrion certainly isn't as ugly as he is in the books!

In book 5 we get a bit more information from her. Even GRRM has said that one of the most misunderstood characters is Mellisandre. I used to HATE her but now I honestly think she's "a good guy".
There are theories that Mellisandre is Shira Seastar or at least a descendant of hers and is VERY VERY old. That the red jewel around her neck only serves as a "glamour".

Robb's wife was a different character in the books, BUT I don't think it really matters that they gave her a name. I think its funny that no one "trusts" her that hasn't read the books. I'm very surprised they chose to reveal that she is indeed expecting though. I wonder if this is why Robb chooses to leave her back for TRW.

The bloodraven is the 3 eyed crow. The tree guy. I think there's a well supported theory that the Bloodraven is Brynden Rivers- the Great ******* they all talk about in ADwD.
This is from ASoIaF Wiki:
Lord Brynden Rivers, called "Bloodraven", was a legitimized Great ******* of Aegon IV and Mylessa Blackwood, his sixth mistress. His personal arms were a white dragon with red eyes breathing red flame on a black field. During his life, he was a Targaryen loyalist during the Blackfyre Rebellion,[2] the Hand of Aerys I,[3] and Lord Commander of the Night's Watch.[4] Shiera Seastar, another ******* of Aegon IV, was his mistress. His half-brother Bittersteel desired Shiera also, which served in increasing the enmity between the two. He was thought to be a sorcerer.[5] The evidence in A Dance with Dragons strongly suggests him to be the three-eyed crow.
Mellisandre sees him in her fires and thinks he's "The Great Other" and automatically thinks he's the enemy, which could squash the theory that Mel is Shiera Seastar.
As far as Jon Snow being Rhaegar and Lyanna's child- I 100% hope this is the case, because that would make Jon "The song of Ice and Fire" and one of the heads of the dragon (The dragon has 3 heads).

She is- that's Lady Stoneheart. I have no idea what the hell her purpose will be but I remember being a little grossed out when I read her description. I think they did a little foreshadowing this past episode when Arya and Thoros were talking about bringing someone back after too long.
And ita- the books are AMAZING.

I don't think Robb is a zombie (LOL Rob Zombie). They cut off his head and sewed Grey Wind's head on top. If he's a zombie, that's going to be friggin nuts!
And the decree about Jon taking over for him, I'm not sure that was in the books. It might have just been the show. In any event, I don't think it matters because he's not king so I don't think he's decrees really mean sh*t. LOL

I think that all stems from Lyanna making Ned "promise" her when she died. The theory is that he "promised" to care for Jon as if he was his own. So when he came back to Catlyn, he made up a story about impregnating someone and keeping the baby.
I also don't think its a coincidence that one of Danys dragons is white with red eyes- just like ghost. There's got to be something more to that.
ETA: I'm wrong- Viserion is not white with red eyes, I just went back and read it. In any event, I still think Jon Snow is one of the heads of the dragon. I think because he can "warg", he may embody one of them.

Holy Crap- ok so obviously the reveal about Talisa (Robb's Wife) being pregnant is a big departure from the books. I just found out that GRRM himself wrote the episode! So that means he either just spilled a major plot point for future books OR maybe she dies at The Red Wedding and then she never was pregnant and really had no point. There's another theory that I just read though that kinda blew my mind!!
Its called the "Lannister Honeypot Theory", which plays into the whole "I don't trust this b!tch" thing. Basically the theory is that Talisa is simply lying about being pregnant because she is a Lannister spy. Robb has never been defeated in the field. Tywin knows that, and wanted to defeat him some other way. Having Talisa seduce him into breaking his marriage pact with the Freys is one way to do that.

i read all the books (i admit, i raced through book 5 because i was so damn eager to read it) and am realizing i must have missed a TON of stuff because i don't know half of what you're talking about.
I'm definitely going back to re-read them all before book 6 comes out so i can absorb all this stuff that i missed.
FWIW - i still think Melisandre is an evil witch. no way is she up to any good.

i read all the books (i admit, i raced through book 5 because i was so damn eager to read it) and am realizing i must have missed a TON of stuff because i don't know half of what you're talking about.
I'm definitely going back to re-read them all before book 6 comes out so i can absorb all this stuff that i missed.

I feel like I need to re-read books 4 and 5 too because there's so many new characters and I kinda forgot about the whole thing with the Greyjoys and Victerion and the horn and crap. I re-read it in a forum and was like- Oh yea....
Honestly this is all speculation. I'm so excited for book 6 to come out though. I feel like I need to re-read them all to prime myself up.
I have some of the novellas too if you're interested...

The decree/deed is in the book -- actually a pretty big deal especially in book 5.

I know! I'm so worried about Arya! I want her to have her revenge. I still think though because of her ties to Nymeria that she will find her way back to the Starks.
I know Mrs. Martin is a HUGE fan of Arya's and has threatened to divorce him several times if he kills her
Although the Giants didn't have a good season this year so that could factor in....supposedly when they play like shit, he kills another main character. My money is on Jaime lol
