Toddler beds and sharing a room

Tell me about your transition. I am on the fence on what to do. We have the room to split them but I really wanted to keep them together.

DS has climbed out once and has tried a few other times. I watch the monitor like a hawk right now when he is awake.

What was nap time like? They are in cribs and it is like a circus in there at nap time. Right now they have been in there for 2 hours and they are playing, jumping, yelling etc. Did you loose your nap all together? They eventually fall asleep but together it takes a long time. I NEED naptime right now otherwise I'd get nothing done.

Re: Toddler beds and sharing a room

I don't think Im much help because mine had already dropped their nap before they were in their toddler beds. Chat Icon But the transition for night time went fine. We are in the same situation as you, we have the rooms to separate them but I want to keep them together as long as they want to be. How are they at night? Do they take awhile to fall asleep then too?

Night time they are good..sometime it takes them a while to fall asleep but they are always content and quiet reading books.
How do you do it with no naps ?!?!?

Re: Toddler beds and sharing a room

My twins started climbing out of their cribs at 21mo...the exact day I came home from the hospital w/ DS#3. We transitioned to toddler beds. It was horrible bc they would run around like lunatics all night long and stopped napping so we put them back in cribs and got crib tents.

Last week, just before they turned 3, one of the tents broke. 1 twin has a tent; the other doesn't. The tent is not zipped shut. We told them that if they get out, we'll treat them like babies and not the big boys that they are now.

Surprisingly, they've been doing pretty good. They are napping for 2 hours in the afternoon. When I put them in, I tell them that we will only go play outside if they go right to sleep and they usually listen.

Some days I thought about putting them in separate rooms bc it was such insanity. But....they love each other so much and almost cant function w/out the other one in the same room. Chat Icon and Chat Icon

I am considering switching them into regular beds this summer. Not looking forward to it. Chat Icon

Toddler beds and sharing a room

I always had to seperate for naps. When one of my girls started to jump out I got the tent. I was against it at first but it really worked for them. The girls were in toddler beds at 3 years old. I wish we would have just gotten them twins because a year later we bought them twins. I

Re: Toddler beds and sharing a room

I've always separated for naps. DD sleeps in my room, DS in the kids' room. Now they are 4.5 and don't take naps anymore, but they still do quiet time in separate rooms. They went into the toddler beds at 2.5 and were in them until their 4th birthday.
When I first switched them to the toddler beds they would take every piece of clothing out of the dresser and closet every day. I eventually just piled everything on top of the dresser because I got tired of folding and hanging everything every day.

THIS! I recommend getting a lock for the closet and we put the dresser in the hallway. My kids have to be exhausted otherwise they would have a party. They stopped napping around 3yo because they were only having parties LOL
They are 4 now and if at bedtime I hear running around I will bring them downstairs for 5 minutes 'to get their sillies out'. Then they usually go up quietly and play with their leap pads.

We actually changed my 3yo twins into toddler beds since I posted above a few weeks ago. They stay in their beds at night and are good for naps too. The only issue----now they are getting up at 5am. They just asked me for lunch. Chat Icon Chat Icon

If it makes you feel any better my kids are up around 545 in their cribs.

Glad they are doing well in their beds though!

Haha I am pretty sure this is what will happen. Right now they are having races across their crib with their pants down "on your mark get set go.." Yesterday they were breastfeeding their mickey dolls, burping them etc for 2 hours....cute but wish they were sleeping.

Thanks for your post. I have always thought to separate them for naps but was too lazy to set up the pack n play every day (they play in the second room). That room has a queen bed in it and I have had one of them napping in the big bed and they are doing great! I am going to do toddler beds in their room now that I have figured out nap time. Thanks!

Hopefully they keep the clothes in the drawers!!!

This post is making me dread switching them to toddler beds! Mine are 22 months, and one twin has climbed out once last month but hasn't tried it again. Hopefully I still have awhile to worry about this.

I just saw this post! Chat Icon

J and N were climbing out of their cribs earlier this year and we were so nervous that they were going to hurt themselves. My little acrobats also had sleep sacks on!

Getting them into their toddler beds at night isn't bad. J loves books so he wants to hold one (and his bunny) and he falls asleep right away. He knows the routine...milk, brush teeth, put PJs on, then off to bed. N is more difficult. He won't fall asleep in his bed on his own. I usually lay with him on the couch in the den and he'll fall asleep. Then I'll carry him to his bed and he'll sleep there for several hours (he's usually looking for me at 2 am!).

As for naps, J will tell me "nap" and I'll bring him to his bed. N usually falls asleep on his "stuffed turtle" on the couch in the den. They usually sleep for 2 hours and they're on the same schedule.

My boys run around their room a lot, too. It definitely wears them out. We bought the clips for their dresser drawers so they can't pull out their clothes or hurt their fingers.
