How long do play dates usually last?
I never want my kids to stay longer than they should. Sometimes it's awkward when you're invited somewhere and not sure when to go. Would more than 2 hours be long?

How long do play dates usually last?
Our playdates last about an hour or two if it is at someone's house. If it is at a play place or an event it depends upon the length of the event. We will then go out for lunch too.

I think it depends on the age of the kids, as well as whether it's a first play date or a play date with kids who play together often, and whether it's a school day or a weekend.
If you are unsure, I would just say, "I was thinking we'd leave around x time. Does that work for you?"
For younger kids (preschoolers and kindergarten), I think 1.5 to 2 hours the norm.

For the first few times, 2 hours seems to be best. I've noticed with many kids, 2 hours seems to be the limit before a lot of them start getting bored, tired, cranky, etc. Enough time for them to play for a while, but not so long that they are fighting with each other. Of course, after several playdates, you can see how they are, and they can probably play much longer, but I would start with about 2 hours.

How long do play dates usually last?
I always tell DD that the play date will be over in 2 hours. AT the 1.5 hour mark I tell her quietly that she has 1/2 hour to go. Then I play it by ear.

2 hours is a good rule of thumb when first starting the play date scene. My kids are older now and I don't go with them when they go to a friends house and they can be there 4-5 hours easily (giving me a much needed break)!
