WW for Nursing Moms?

Anyone use this program and have success? I have about 20 lbs left to lose...I am 3 months PP and stuck! Thanks for your advice!

WW for Nursing Moms?

Yes! I lost all my baby weight with both kids through WW. THey give you extra points for nursing. Be gentle with yourself, and remember you are nourishing another little person, so don't expect the weight to fall off. Slow and steady wins the race Chat Icon

Thank you SO much! I am trying to decide what to do> I have a pretty extensive background in nutrition but am having a very hard time losing the weight so I thought it might be helpful to try WW. I have an appointment with a nutritionist/doc next week to have bloodwork and metabolic testing done as part of my yearly physical. As long as all of that is good to go, then I might give it a shot.

This is not WW related, but I have taken several courses in post-natal fitness, so I just want to remind you that your body will hold on to a little extra fat while you are nursing and for a few months thereafter. This isn't to say that the weight come off, because it will, but your body is not functioning as it used to, it has different needs and will respond differently, metabolically. Your macro needs are so different, it is hard to put on muscle because you have to watch your protein intake, and therefor harder to lose and keep off weight.

I lost all my pregnancy weight within a month, but I honestly did not feel like I looked good until probably 18 months (6 months after I stopped nursing). This is just me, others will have a different story. At almost 2 years, I am finally starting to see the muscle gains I want (2 years bc of time constraints really, and bc I was so sick I lost most of my muscle mass).

Sorry for the tangent and long response. As someone who lived for fitness, I struggled with body image and feeling good for a long time after I had my baby, it took so long for me to just let go and focus on what was really important, so I just like to share the info I have with other moms that may be in the same boat. You are only 3 months in, you don't have to be "perfect" over night. They say 9 months on 9 months off, and though it's probably closer to 6 months off, the point is it takes time. You will get there!

Thank you! I am ok with hanging onto a little weight--but I think 20 lbs seems like it's too much, ya know?

I will definitely see what my doctor says and go from there. Ultimately, the most important thing is nourishing my baby!

Yeah you can definitely get down a little bit more at this point - hopefully the doctor/nutritionist will help you find the right path. Good luck!

I totally agree with the above poster! It takes time for your body to get back to normal. It holds onto fat while nursing, and I also lost a lot of muscle mass while pregnant (esp in my butt!), so oddly, with my first, once I lost the fat, I was much skinnier than before since I had no muscle in my tush. Once I was working out more regularly, I gained that muscle back, and now I think I am pretty close to pre-baby body. :)
And I can't say enough, 3 months is not that much time to lose all the pregnancy weight. So be kind to yourself. :)

Thanks! I am not expecting to be back to my pre-baby body at all. I am jsut a bit concerned that I am holding onto 20 extra lbs. That seems like too much to me. But maybe not. I am curious to see what the doc saysy!

I did it.
I ultimately noticed a decrease in my supply though. DS was always a big big eater and I think it just wasn't enough for him to begin with.

I have heard others say this too... I did NOT notice a drop in supply.

I was careful to follow the good health guidelines and drink tons of water. Not sure if that helped? Oh, and I also ate ALL of my points every day/week. haha!

I didn't do WW, but I did really watch what I was eating & definitely ate with the baby in mind. I wasn't able to get away to exercise, so I had no choice & gained 50lbs with both DDs.
I never had an issue with supply, & was able to lose the wt, & the finally portion when I finally was about to incorporate more of a workout routine, somewhere around 7mo. But I too didn't have my body really return 100% to normal until BF was completely over.
