1st grade gym
Did your children have gym in the first grade? How many days of the week and how long? I was surprised that in kindergarten DS didn't have any gym. He did have a little bit of music. I know with the cuts certain classes are tight but I'm really hoping they will introduce more of gym class. I can only spend so much out of school and my DH who is clueless seems to think he'll know all there is to know about sports in gym and its free. I disagree, I think it's really limited. I'm just curious how they provide gym now these days is it once or twice a week 20 minutes...

1st grade gym
Our schools have 45 minutes of gym twice a week starting in K. As a side note we have music twice a week, art once a week, library every other week, and computer lab once a week all for 45 minutes each.

Both my kids (1st and 3rd) have gym 3x week for about 30 mins.

We had gym in Kindergarten and have it again from here on in.
I think 2x a week, 45 mins.
We also get art, library, and music once a week.

Gym is state mandated, so your DC will definitely have it in 1st grade! I'm guessing they didn't offer it in K because K isn't state mandated?? (I think it's really odd they didn't have it!)
My DD has gym 2-3x/week (switches every other week, one week it's twice, next it's three times).

Was it a full day kindergarten?
In Kindergarten and 1st the kids get 40 or 45 min specials. Gym 2x a week. Music, art and library once. So they have one special a day.

My DS said they have a special period each day- it was gym two times, art, music, and library each week.

No1/2 day kindergarten Which now explains it but they did manage to fit in library and music I'm excited about the amount of gym they will get now.

Yes. As someone else mentioned, it is state mandated but the state says it should be X minutes per week and some schools fall short b/c they **** recess as an activity time. From what I see, gym class has changed. I am okay with that but the kids do need more time away from their desks.

My district, in K and beyond is gym twice a week. Art, music, library are the other three days.
45 minutes each.
