Kindergarten birthday party question

So my DC birthday is coming up. We are having a kids party. In Daycare we always invited the whole class. How does this work in kindergarten? Do you still invite the whole class?? How do they give out the invites? I always left them in the cubby at daycare but now I'm no longer dropping DC off.

Help lol

Re: Kindergarten birthday party question

My DD has gotten invited to two parties since starting K. I assume they invited the whole class because it is so early in the year and I don't even think the kids know each other's names well enough to choose. We got invited via email. Our teacher provided a contact list for all kids/parents and we were told no invitations are to be handed out at school.

I have never invited the whole class. DS gets to pick 3-5 kids.

DS just started and his party is in a month. Do you think it's weird if I just invite the boys? I want to invite kids from his class just because he is going to be spending the next year with them. How do you hand out invites?

Does K give out class lists? I too was thinking of inviting the class.

We are having a princess theme party to celebrate both of my girls birthdays. We are having mostly family and our friend's children and I was thinking this year we would either skip classmates all together or invite the girls from her class. In the future we will probably just do a party with whole class.

Re: Kindergarten birthday party question

I have invited the whole class for pre-k and kindergarten, but last year in first grade I just invited the boys. I'll probably do the same this year.

Re: Kindergarten birthday party question

Last year my DS was in kindergarten and he was invited to a few parties at the beginning of the year (4). After that bunch of them were cancelled by Sandy (2) and from then on people did not seem to have parties until May. A couple of parents basically said they either had family parties, or only had the kid invite a couple of friends. DS birthday is in the summer and he invited only boys from the neighborhood and some other friends to our house for a lego party.

According to my neighbors they said the big parties end at about 2nd grade and most people don't invite the whole class because it is cost prohibitive.

Thanks for all the replies. Kindergarten just started this week so we haven't been provided with a class list yet or the proper protocol on how to distribute invites. I guess maybe I'll just send a letter to the teacher regarding this.

Kindergarten birthday party question

My daughter has an early birthday so we always tell the teacher (pre-K)
we are having a bday and want to invite the class and so we need a list. I think most schools want you to mail them to the homes if you are not inviting the whole class. (We invite everyone, but this year I will mail invites since I think there is some mixing with kids in aftercare and I wouldn't be able to invite all the classes (some of whom have kids present in aftercare), so easier just to mail.

Ds bday is coming up as well. We decided to just have family over. He doesn't know the kids well. And there are so many activities on the weekend now ,we are keeping it small.

Re: Kindergarten birthday party question

It's up to you. You can invite whole class, and just bring invites for teacher to put in their folders, or invite a few and mail to their houses.

I've seen children invite the whole class, only the "girls" or "boys" and I've seen them just pick their close buddies from school, not necessarily the class.

And we've also received invites where they were directly mailed to my daughter and in class where they were general invites.

In the past we've received friendship/class lists with all the children's and parents' info (names, addresses & emails.)

Re: Kindergarten birthday party question

I teach kindergarten. If invites are sent through school, you have to invite either all the boys or all the girls. If the parent is sending them out on their own, it's not my business.

I sent a letter in with DC on Friday asking the teacher how invites are handled and also asking for a class list. I have heard nothing back from her. His party is in a couple of weeks. I'm not sure how I should now handle this. I don't have her email either.

ETA: Thanks everyone for your responses!

Re: Kindergarten birthday party question

In my son's kindergarten class, the teacher had a rule that for bday parties, the whole class should be invited, not a select number of kids only. If it's a girl only party, all girls in class should be invited. Same for boys only party. My DS is in 1st grade now, and same rule applies in his class.
