Anyone with thick hair get extensions?

I cut my hair off after my wedding last year and now I feel like it just stopped growing.

I reached out to my hairdresser to ask her about extensions but she said with my hair type it would cost me $1000 because I'd need double the amount that "normal women" do.

So i'm thinking i can get the clip in's but if its going to be $$$ i dont really want to do it.

Anyone with thick hair have experience getting extensions???
