Be honest... did you love/hate RS's IVF lab...
I know lab is very important with IVF... any RS patient opinions on how their embies were treated there? I got a few neg responses unfortunately and would love to hear anything at all! In my case, my quality and quantity are low so lab is VERY important when I start IVF.

Re: Be honest... did you love/hate RS's IVF lab...
Despite my crappy amount of eggs I always had decent fertilization rates with icsi , I also had very good survival rates with embies looking good for day 3 (as far as you can tell from day 3). Whenever I had a question the embryology department was always good at calling back and taking the time to answer my questions. With all this being said I'm still not pregnant, but there is no way to tell whose "fault" it is. I was also told that they are pretty much only going to be doing 5 days transfers in the future, from what I read on Dr Google it seems like the way to go.
And the nurses on that side are awesome!

Be honest... did you love/hate RS's IVF lab...
I did 1 IVF there with my RE who is not a part of RSofNY. I had 2 to transfer and 2 to freeze. IDK much about the actual lab. Michelle in the lab was nice and informative when I spoke to her about my embryos and frozen report. The nurses were all nice in the OR area. IDK if they did a great job with my embryos or not. I hope they take good care of my frozen ones when I need them which is soon.

I do not feel like they did a great job with mine. I have also heard their lab has one of the lower success rates in the state ( that was told to me by current lab).

How can we check lab success rates? I know SART is for RE's, right?

Your going to get lots of opinions depending on whether a person was successful. I got 2 bfp's and a bfn from rsny. As I have said rsny is not for everyone just like NSUH, liivf, dr. B and all other RE's. I had no issues with the lab. They called me back when I left messages. Many women have success there so to say they are not good because they didn't get someone pregnant is not fair. You need to find the right facility, a good RE who puts you on the right protocol but in the end sometimes there is no explanation to why a cycle fails other than there was an issue with the embryo or lining.

If you want to know about a lab, you have to look at the hard data. RSofNY's lab is getting a less than 50% pregnancy rate for fresh donor egg cycles (which is where you look for an indicator of lab quality since it levels out the patient factor by looking pretty exclusively at healthy young women). Their FET outcomes using donor eggs are less than 20%. In both cases, that's below average.

Wow, they are way lower than other labs. I'm pretty shocked by this! I wonder if there's a variable causing such a low number? Thanks for the link!

Re: Be honest... did you love/hate RS's IVF lab...
According to my last consult with DR. Stelling, it's hard to go by the statistics in that way. His reason being that a lot of practices can and will turn people with a very low chance away or insist on using a donor. Reason being is they will bring their numbers down. They do not do that. They will try at least once with your eggs and see what happens. That will lower their success rate but will also give you a shot, no matter, how small to conceive your own biological child.
Based on my blood work, using my eggs with IVF gives us a 5% chance. Our embryo quality in the end "may" bring that up but we'll see about that. I am one if those people who might be bring their success rates down. But I'm taking the chance and they aren't turning me away bc of it.

That's why I provided the statistics for the DE cycles themselves. There's no where to hide when everyone is 25 and healthy. That's where you look when you look at labs because Dr. Stelling is absolutely right: a clinic like LIIVF, for example, pushes for donor early vs. a clinic like Cornell, whose patients have on average been through 3-4 failures elsewhere prior to starting treatment with them. Hence the reason why LIIVF's OE cycles for women under 35 come in near 60% while Cornell is 43%. But when you look at donor cycles, they're both around 55%, so the labs are really equally successful.
Clinics do manipulate their numbers, so you have to look at them carefully. But they do have a lot of meaning when you're taking a hard look at your clinic and whether they're giving you the best treatment.

I think treatment and success are being seen the same which they are truly not. You can be given the best protocol possible with a facility that has the best SART stats and still not be successful.
We all need to advocate for ourselves and if we are not happy for whatever reason be it we should seek a 2nd, 3rd, 4th or even 5th opinion. Sometimes its hard to stomach but there are times that no matter what the protocol, lab or all other factors a woman may not end up pregnant. Its sad to hear and even believe but infertility treatments do not always result in a happy ending. We have all have that hope and desire but it may not be the case for everyone.

My new dr said the same thing. Not all drs take all patients. He's said with my low AMH level And age be turned away by certain doctors. I probably bring down RS statistics but I'm glad they at least took a chance on me.
