High yield savings accounts

I'm attempting to look into high yield savings accounts. I googled and found a list of banks but none of them are familiar to me. Do these banks have actual locations or are they online only? How do you decide which to use?

High yield savings accounts

I personally would not put my money into some random online bank acct. I just could not trust it... I use capital one 360 which I think is getting .75% at the moment... Better than nothing! Just curious, what's the highest rate you've found?

You have nothing to worry about it if the bank is FDIC insured. I once had a LOT of cash at an online bank that went under (IndyMac). I didn't lose my money.

9 times out of 10 if a bank goes under or "fails" (term typically used in the industry), another bank comes in to take them over, and the takeover is seamless to the customer. If that doesn't happen, the government takes them over and FDIC kicks in.

Here is a list of all the banks that have failed in the past few years.

Re: High yield savings accounts

So is it safe to pick any bank? Does anyone have suggestions of banks they have used?
