high interest savings acct?

please recommend a high interest savings acct. we get 1.20% APR in ING right now (I miss the days when we would get 4%) but I know there are better offers out there with credit unions/etc, although some are area-specific and seem to exclude NY.

We can direct deposit DH's paycheck and would be willing to meet a minimum balance requirement.

What do you use and recommend? TYIA

Oh good question JPS. DH and I were just talking about this the other day.

I'd love to hear which banks are the best at this time

my dad mails us his issues of Money magazine when he's done with them (lol) and they are always talking about this, but a lot are state-specific credit unions! I've seen some offering as much as 4% if you meet their other reqs - usually direct deposit, min balance and sometimes debit purchases. I'm willing to try out a smaller bank but want to know it's legit before I do...

Re: high interest savings acct?

the highest that I've seen lately is a 2% online account with HSBC- maybe try that

Otherwise, maybe a money market would offer a better rate- not sure though

Re: high interest savings acct?

Credit Unions are overrated. They don't always offer the best rates.

The best rate I have seen by a "major" bank with a physical presence is Capital One Savings which I believe currently is 1.55%. There are higher rates to be had by online banks like a previous poster said.
