Pre-existing Security system
We are purchasing a home that has a security system already intalled but the current owners have never actually used it. Can I contact any security company and use what is already installed? Any recommendations?

No, you can't. Our home had an ADT system, but DH does alarms and we didn't want to pay an arm and a leg to have it monitored. ADT requires you to return their equipment. DH ripped it all out and installed new stuff. If you have honeywell equipment, you might have better luck. But an ADT or Slomins will probably require you to use them for the monitoring.

I'm buying a house that has an alarm system. i plan to continue their plan. at closing i just have to sign paperwork that says they're transferring the account over to me. you can have the sellers get you the information on the system before you decide if you want to keep it. otherwise they have to pay a termination fee.

I just bought a home that had an alarm preinstalled, alarm coverage wasn't carried for at least 5 years. Slomins came in and put their alarm boxes on them and updated a couple of things. Worked out perfectly.
