RE ~ IVF/IUI ?
Hi Ladies:
First I want say how grateful I am to have these boards and to have "met" so many others going through infertility issues- I have learned so much that I never knew.....I have made 2 appts with RE for consultations for next month - but before I go in can anyone tell me what to expect from a RE?
Will they re run all the tests my OB/gyn ordered? or soe of them and then if there are no issues that that they can see (my hormone levels were fine 2 times - decent AMH levels, clear HSG, dh SA ok) but we are both 40 and 40+......so my question is will a RE automatically say we have togo to IVF bc of age or do they recommend IUI - to start.....(i did IUI with my OB/gyn office a few cycles now with Clomid/ hcg.....
This month we are going away to Aruba and It looks like we are going tobe away when I ovulate so I am hoping that the magic of vaca will work but if not am taking the next step for next cycle when we return.....
Im am so scared that a RE will tell me one thing or the other bc of age What were your experiences? any info is appreciated.....Thanks all and to all......

RE ~ IVF/IUI ?
First off, good luck!
If your tests are recent (less than a year old), you will most likely not need to repeat them. They will review your file and decide the best course of action based on what they see. I do not think they will make you go right to IVF, but sometimes it all depends on the RE.

This. If all tests and numbers show no decline in fertility they will most likely start you with IUIs but won't go as far with them as they would with so some who is 30. Ya know? When you are a little older, those numbers can change without warning. Mine did at 34. I had all my levels checked when I was 30 just to see where I stood with my fertility and all was great. Then after trying for 8 months, had them checked again at 34 and they were not good at all. Now at 36, my FSH was a 20 last time
So they may say they will try a couple IUIs with a different medication (femara or injectibles) and see if that works and how you respond.
Good luck with everything!

ITA. They might not rerun all tests, but they might also run tests that your OB didn't run. OBs tend to just test baseline hormone levels and an RE will usually do more, even just STD testing, for example.
If your levels are fine and you're unexplained, they will probably do a few IUIs before jumping to IVF. An RE will monitor you much better than an OB for IUIs and get a lot more info out of a cycle. You may also want to try injectables as they give a better, more controlled stim, even for IUIs.
Good luck!
