How did you do your injections to make them less painful?
The initial prick does not hurt but the injecting of the liquid stings so bad inside. Any tips to make this more bearable?

Re: How did you do your injections to make them less painful?
I have an injection melt down at least 1-2 times a week. I'm on lovenox and even though I've been on it for almost 6 weeks, it has not gotten mentally easier the thought and process of injecting myself.
Nevertheless, I insert the fluid really slow so that it burns less. Some nights it takes me 30 seconds to a minute to inject all the fluid but I find when I do that, I barely feel it going in at all.
I give big kudos to the women who are able to do it with no hesitation or second thoughts. I always have to give myself 5 min pep talks and even then, I stand there with the needle for another 3 minutes trying to give myself the courage to stick it in. Lol, I'm a mess.

Yes, exactly!! I sit there talking myself into it each night for ten minutes.

Re: How did you do your injections to make them less painful?
Which meds are you on? I never found icing beforehand to be helpful, but I do hold an icepack on the injection sites for a minute after I'm done with all of the injections. Injecting slowly does minimize the burning sensation a little. Also, I've found that if I wait a minute or two after reconsituting, it burns a tiny bit less. Some days, it burns less than others. I used to say that injecting menopur was like shooting hot acid into my stomach. The only one that never stung me was Gonal-F and MDL. Bravelle and Menopur are just mean :(

I found icing the injection site before hand to be helpful! Good luck!

I am on Gonal and Menopur. They hurt so much going in- esp the gonal for me. I have a hard time maneuvering the pen.

See if icing beforehand works for you. It didn't help me, but everyone is different and it may help you. Definitely try injecting the medicine slowly. I hope it becomes more tolerable

Re: How did you do your injections to make them less painful?
I was on Gonal before and oddly, that was the easier one for me. Do you stick it in at a side angle or straight in? I used to do a side angle and it helped to maneuver the pen easier that way.

I just stuck them immediately. PIO though, I have a mini panic attack before each injection. I hate it.

With follistim I took it out of fridge, mixed it and let it sit for awhile before injecting. Didn't hurt too much going in but I was quick.
With menopur I also mixed it and let it sit for a little bit before injecting. That helped also. I also did it in my stomach where it was more fatty so that helped as well.

I mixed the Gonal and Menopur together so it was just one injection. I didn't ice or anything. I just lay down so I'm comfy and relaxed, pinch the skin, key is inserting needle fast like a dart straight in, and injecting really slowly I found made it burn less. The Ganirelix...that one hurts bc the needle is not very sharp, but it doesn't really burn. The PIO I did myself; the needle hurt a little going in, but I injected slow and I didn't have any pain or burning. Rub the area after to disperse meds. May be a little sore after or the next day. I didn't ice or heat for that one either.

Same here - mix them so you only need 1 shot. The only shot I hated was Lovenox - that one burned. I found PIO to be a pain because the prep and after procedures made the shot take like 30 minutes!

I never had issues with Gonal or Menopur. Though if I remember correctly, sometimes the prick hurt more if I did it in certain areas. Just keep changing where you prick and maybe you'll find an area that's less sensitive.
And even when it burned, it only burned for a few seconds.

How did you do your injections to make them less painful?
there was no way I was able to inject myself. DH did it. I iced the area (my thighs, there was no way I was gonna get injected in my stomach), then I gave myself a pep talk, breathed heavily, put headphones with very loud dance music and then yelled at my DH to do it. He did it very quickly, the faster it was the less painful. Also one of my Dr's suggested to make sure to inject in the flashiest part which helped a lot.

The less I think about injections the better I am. I know if I'm overthinking it.....it's going to be a bad one.

Re: How did you do your injections to make them less painful?
I think my main issues were -- I kept the skin pinched when pushing the liquid in (stupid) -- I didn't inject in a fatty area. My stomach is mostly flat so I picked different spots and now it's a bit more bearable. Still stings but not as terrible.
