Wall oven and separate range OR range/oven combo
Just curious which you prefer?
I had a oven/range combo in my last house. it was fine. In my new house, the existing kitchen has a cooktop and separate wall oven. The kitchen is very outdated so we're gearing up to re-do it this spring. I'm trying to decide if I want to go with a wall oven again or a slide-in range/oven. I like that my wall oven is higher up--easier to get stuff in and out and easier with little kids. But the all-in-one will give me a little more counter space.

can you do a double wall oven? that's what i would do if i have the space (with a counter top range of course). depending on what type of range you have (gas/electric rings/electric glass top) you can also get something to cover it, like a big butcher block type thing, when you aren't using it that would give you more counter space.
i can talk about redoing kitchens forever, i have dreams about how i would redo my kitchen.

I think in the long run, you'll be MUCH happier to have more counter space.

Re: Wall oven and separate range OR range/oven combo
I have a double wall oven and separate cooktop, and I like it. When I renovate my kitchen (someday!), I am going to keep it like that. I feel like you can always add in other work surfaces in a kitchen... kitchen table, small rolling island, etc. And a double-oven is SO useful to me because I cook and entertain a lot. I also like not having to bend down to get things out of the oven, and the fact that if I am standing at the range cooking, someone can be putting things in and out of the oven without me having to move. It's just convenient.
But if it was just a single wall oven, though, and counter space was really minimal, I'd probably go for the all-in-one stove/oven unit.

My first choice would be this. If a double oven is not do-able, then I would do the oven stove combo and opt for more counter space, or a large pantry cabinet

This would be my first choice. I didn't have the extra $ and did an all in one. It works fine because I hardly entertain though.

If I could do a double wall oven, I'd do it in a heartbeat. If not, I'd do the one slide in piece to have more counter space.

Wall oven and separate range OR range/oven combo
I have a single wall oven and a cooktop and love it. Our cabinet guy messed up and there wasn't enough space to do a double wall oven (grrr, I'm still irritated about this), but I love my single convection oven.

I would put in double wall ovens and a separate range. It is so nice to be able to store all your pots and pans in deep drawers directly under your range. And I think it's much nicer to have ovens at wall height vs. so close to the floor in a combo.

I would also do a double wall oven if you have the space. It helps if you entertain a lot. i have a single wall oven plus a cooktop put in by the old owners of the house. they wanted an electric oven and gas range.
