Color IQ Rave

I went yesterday morning for the Color IQ at Sephora and just wanted to say it was a fantastic experience and I feel SOOOOOOOOOOOO much better about my makeup now. I feel kind of like a grown up Chat Icon I have very pale skin in the winter and never had the right color going on. Now my face is brighter, healthier looking... and the laura mercier concealer under my eyes is a godsend (perhaps would have been even more so if i got more than 5 hours of sleep but we can't have everything haha).

Re: Color IQ Rave

So glad that it worked out for you. The way you described it, is exactly how I felt when I had it done. Such a wonderful experience. My one word of caution, since I had it done I have gotten into make up. It is a lot of fun knowing what works on me now.

I need this. SO SO SO badly. I can't pick make-up out to save my life. Can you tell me a little more about it? The cost? Do you need an appointment?

No appointment. I walked into the roosevelt field store at about 9:45am yesterday and was helped right away. They put a thingy against your face in a couple of spots and press a button and the computer generates a code. Then based on that code it recommends a number of different foundation options (different brands, liquid v. powder, etc.). Then the girl sat me down in the makeup chair and brought out a couple of different ones to try on my face. I asked for finishing powder and concealer as well. She also helped me pick a blush at my request.

Important - don't wear anything on your face other than moisturizer. I had mascara on - that's fine - but no foundation or anything tinted.

I was not charged. I think if you buy makeup there is no charge. Not sure if there's a minimum though.

Me tooChat Icon I am now closer to Rouge than I would like to admit and it was almost all purchased in the past 6 months. I am not going to try for Rouge though. I have not seen the perks of Rouge to be better than VIB. They said that it would be better for Rouge next year though.

Color IQ Rave

Is it just for your skin, or do they recommend eye shadow colors and what not as well?

This sounds very very tempting!! I don't wear any foundation nor concealer on an every day basis. Did you wear products before? I'm thinking eventually it'd be in my best interest to start wearing something every day.

I wish they also recommended shadows, blush and lipstick with the system but it is only for foundation/powders.

I will say that from other make up forums the following neutral shadow palettes are frequently recommended:
Lorac Pro
Urban Decay Basics
Too Faced Natural Eyes
Laura Mercier Artist Palette (limited edition - if you can find it snag it)
The Balm Meet Matte
Sonia Kashuk Perfectly Neutral (6 colors mostly browns)
Lancome Taupe Craze Palette

I used to wear just powder and concealer but this summer I entered my mid 30s I felt I needed to step up my game and the powder was just not cutting it for me anymore I got matched with a foundation and have been very happy.

I got a LE red BITE lipstick when I became rouge. I like it, but I can't find it right now.
You get a free makeover, but I haven't used that b/c I spend so much time at Sephora, I know what I like at this point. Chat Icon

LOL - My DH would be super upset with me. Also, they ran out of those red lipsticks so you just get the card now. Which is a complete bummer, cause it looks like it could have been such a cute color too. I am still a little more than 300 away, so enough that I am not going to reach it, but I still cannot get over the fact I spent so much on make up and skin care this year.Chat Icon

I had previously used bare minerals and was using garnier bb cream now but wanted something with more coverage and a concealer. and also something more matched to my skin tone. the bb cream was fine in the summer but once winter came it was Chat Icon on me.

Sometimes they are off. I would ask for samples of all of the foundations that are recommended and you may need to go a shade up or down. Match it to your neck near the hair line/jaw. It also depends if you have someone who was really trained well on it. If you got someone who is a seasonal staff member it might not work out as well. I would go back and have them redo it.

Thanks! I'm pretty confident that I am in fact wearing the right shade. Not sure what I was hoping for.

Even if it is the right shade, the finish might not work for you. Also, how are you applying it? I start with my fingers and then use the real techniques expert face brush. My foundation is not water based so I use a synthetic brush.
