Natural killer cells confusion

Natural killer cells confusion

I'm so confused and frustrated.
I increased my metformin dosage from 750 to 100mg.
I feel so nauseous and not myself. I really, really hate this stuff. It's overwhelming to have 2 copies of MTHFR as well as 4G/4G. It's really stressful to read about all the future health risks I could have.
Now I'm told I have high anti platelet indirect cells.. Something like that- and I may need to go for extra immune testing and may likely have to go on prednisone and may need intra lipid infusions (?!) for having high NK cells.
However, I have done some research and there is a lot of controversy surrounding this. Many experts in the field say that there is no proof that the N K cells will attack the embryo or fetus.
I read that being on a steroid for the first 3 months of pregnancy has more cons than pros.
I am tempted to just stick with my protocol for right now and not add anything for these natural killer cells. It's just tough to know what to believe and which doctor to follow.
My parents think that the testing is going overboard and that it is getting out of hand. My gut is telling me the same thing, but I am afraid to not follow this doctors protocol, because I do want to have a healthy pregnancy but I am just feeling very uneasy about all of this.

I found many articles similar to this one.

I think my mind is made up, but obviously I am posting on here to see if there is any feedback or experiences to share.

Chat Icon remember that most doctors that don't treat immune issues are not educated nor have experience in that area. I have known quite a few people to become pregnant with this approach. Something wasn't working before right? It's a lot of Meds but it'll all be worth it!!!

Yes, but it is controversial and I found there is not enough evidence to support the natural killer cells theory. In addition I read that being on a steroid like prednisone has more risks than benefits while pregnant.

It is controversial. Many doctors can not agree on it. On the internet I too find different information. Are you seeing Kofinas or Braverman?

IMO you are already on a lot of meds so if thats what you feel comfortable with and don't want to go any further than stay with what you are on. If this doesn't work then further testing and meds is something to explore in the future.

I had lots of tests RLP/other BW (20 vials), HSG, Hysterscopy, and endo biopsy. Nothing major to report. So if this FET doesn't work my next step is in depth immune testing since we really don't know what our issues are. I'm just on meds for Prolactin from the testing. I brought up immune testing to my RE and he didn't really think it was worth it for me. He talked about not enough studies with immune testing etc.

Do what feels right to you. I'm sorry you are dealing with all of this. IF sucks.

Aw thanks for your response. I couldn't believe when I read how controversial it is, and my gut (as well as my hubby's and my parents) says this is too much. If I found substantial concrete evidence online; like I did with metformin and lovenox, I'd consider it- but based on what I read I feel very uncomfortable. I think some drs have no hesitation to drug you up so that you deliver a baby- but at what cost?

I know someone who did many cycles with the intraplids & unfortunetly had no luck. I would HIGHLY suggest doing all your testing now before continueing & spending $$$$$$$ out of pocket. It's better to know now before starting again. I have MTHFR 4g/5g mine is supposedly the worst but carried twins to term. I dont have killer cells though

I hear yah. Again do what you feel comfortable with. Sometimes you have to go with your gut. I am interested in immune testing if this FET doesn't work bc out of 8 medicated cycles I only got 1 BFP which was a chemical. For me, I'm hoping my Prolactin meds help us get and keep a BFP this cycle. If not I'm willing to get further testing and be on whatever meds are necessary. My DH worries about me using too many meds and what will happen to me later on. He says you do all of this and there are still no guarantees and you are putting your body through so much. He isn't sold on the immune testing either but it may be our only hope since we are unexplained. Maybe another Dr. for a second opinion. Who are you seeing? GL

Re: Natural killer cells confusion

Infertility is a roller coaster throw in some immune issues and it can get confusing!! But there's a lot to be understood.
Can you seek a different opinion? Go for consults, so this way you have information presented to you for both sides? I also suggest you do your own research and always ask questions if you're concerned about something.

I have plenty of experience with immune issues and consequent drug protocols including intralipids and prednisone! If you have any questions, FM me.
