Best auto insurance company in Long Island?

I recently moved to Long Island and am in the market for car insurance.

Do you guys have any recommendations?? Who should I use?

I don't know if they are "the best" but I have State Farm and have no issues.

All of our insurances are through them so I got a discounted rate on the auto.


If you own a home, I have heard mixed things about them insuring in certain flood-prone areas. Although *knock on wood* we were hit by Sandy and they didn't drop us, and we were able to add flood insurance through them.

Pretty much all of the major companies write policies in NY. Any reason why you're focused on one specific to Long Island?

New York Motor Insurance isn't an insurance company. Looks more like a broker.

Off the top of my head, there's Tri-State located in Jericho. Mapfre which is not just on LI but they do have a big office in Mineola. Interboro which is also located in Mineola.

I use USAA which is based in Texas. No issues at all but you must be military or be grandfathered in.

I use Geico and was in an accident last February during a blizzard. They were great and I got my full deductible back, they paid for a replacement carseat without any argument, and were great about communicating with me. I highly recommend them.

There is no such thing as "best" ins company as all of them factor things into it such as your age, marital status, residence, and prior history (prior auto accidents or claims if any) plus discounts (AAA, employer, college frat, etc). You need to call all the big ones for quotes.
