Installing tile and radiant heat

Has anyone done this? How much does it run? I think the space is 17x25 that I would like to tile.

Thanks!

We did, but we did it ourselves. The heating mat was inexpensive, and the price of tile will depend on what you pick out.

Re: Installing tile and radiant heat

Thank you! Yes I realize that with the tile. I guess I was asking more about installing the radiant heat. I assume the mat was electric right?

It depends on the type of radiant heat. THe mats are easier and cheaper to install but they are electric and can be expensive to run.

Hyrdonic is more expensive install but cheaper to run.

we did it as part of a much larger renovation, and I don't have the cost broken out really. We did hydronic. The actual tile work was only a bit more expensive for the radiant, I think it was $3 a square foot. Hard to say whether it was just standard practice, or b/c of radiant, it was basically the floor was about $3 more per sqft than the walls.

the actual cost of the plumbing was wrapped into a total replumbing of the house which included all the heat, all the supply, drain venting and new boiler and hot water storage. basically, assuming you have hot water heat, you will need a new zone for the radiant and the correct controls.

for an area that large, considering the electric rates on LI, I'd look into hydronic, but I don't know the real cost on the electric
