Radiant Heat Floor

Our kitchen/entry way has a cement subfloor so my question is can you have radiant heat?

I have not asked my contractor due to my husband just mentioned it.

TIA

Re: Radiant Heat Floor

We have a cement slab and installed radiant heat. DH, his friend and I did all the installation and we hired a contractor to do the cement work.

For the kitchen, we laid reflective foil down, then nailed chicken wire into the cement, then snaked the radiant in an L shaped pattern (2 double loops) through out the kitchen. We floated cement over it then tiled over that.

For the dining room/entry hall, we installed sleepers into the cement slab --- 4x4 wood beams in rows. With then installed reflective foil in between and snaked the radiant through the rows. then cement on top f the radiant (but not the wood sleepers) and installed the hardwood over it (nailing the HW into the wood sleepers).

Overall I lost approximately 3" of height on my first floor.

Hope that helps ...
I cannot find any pics of the Kitchen installation (chicken wire) but here are the wood sleepers I was talking about

Re: Radiant Heat Floor

my bedroom (recent extention) is on a concrete floor and we had radiant heat
installed before we put our wood floor down. The floor will have to be raised to the tubing can be ran (prob 2-3").
Could be a lot of work but not having baseboards is great!.

good luck

Re: Radiant Heat Floor

There is also radiant system that comes with the tubes and plywood with channels cut out in the plywood so you can run the tubes. I looked at it when we thought we had to redo our radiant heat.

Think it will be out of my price range since it requires a lot of work. I thought a mat was layed down and that was it.

If you are going to do a floating floor -- i.e laminate or engineered wood, then you can lay a mat and install over that ...
