hacking cough

I had a very bad cold during the holidays, was on a antibiotic, and still have a very bad hacking cough, Has anyone had this and how long does it take to clear up? What did you do for it? TIA

I had a cough recently that lingered for 6 weeks. It came on with laryngitis for 4 days, then a mostly dry, hacking cough. I would cough so hard at night, then all day, it was horrific. Delsym kinda helped suppress it, but I took mucinex for about 5 days and it seemed to loosen what little phlegm that seemed to be stuck in my chest that I just couldn't cough up. Try the mucinex for a few days.

I had bronchitis about 3 weeks ago and still have a minor cough
my doctor said it can stay in your system up to 6 weeks
