Blue Cross Blue Shield IF coverage?
UPDATE: Finally got through to someone who can explain benefits to me at Empire BCBS.
Bad news... as of 2014 ALL empire BCBS plans will NOT have IF coverage AT ALL.
This is such a major disappointment. ------------------------------------------------------- Our insurance broker is currently looking into other plans for us through the ACA. I'm hoping to be rid of Oxford asap (if it works out financially)
One of the options he mentioned was BCBS. I don't know too much about it and was wondering if anyone here has it, what kind of IF coverage do they offer? A limit on IUIs and GASP possibly some sort of IVF or set lifetime amount for any medical procedure not covered.
TIA

Blue Cross Blue Shield IF coverage?
I have BC BS and have no IF benefits but - I pay OOP for everything but - It is a private purchase plan so that is probably why.....we could go up on our payments but unless they cover IVF in full or something like this I dont think i would make out in the deal - so we have just been paying as we go....I hear good things about GHI?

What do you mean by Private Purchase? As individuals or through a business? Through ACA or before that became available?
We are finding out, through nystateofhealth, if we should get it as individuals or through our business. Which is better financially. We currently purchase Oxford through our business. It's expensive and our IF coverage is used (They covered four Medicated IUIs lifetime)

Blue Cross Blue Shield IF coverage?
I have BCBS through my employer and no IUI/IVF coverage. They just cover diagnostic testing like HSG and also consults/appts. Have to pay oop every cycle. Hope your coverage will be better.

I guess it depends which plan you have. Dr. Stelling told me that they were one of the better ones. I personally don't know, but it's worth call them and fining out for yourself.

Definitely depends on the exact plan you get. My parents have BCBS and IVF would be covered. I have Empire BC and it is not covered.

Re: Blue Cross Blue Shield IF coverage?
Thanks everyone.
My broker knows what I am looking for in a new insurance. As of right now, I have 0 IF coverage bc we used our IUIs. Would be nice to get something that had IUIs at least.
I'll keep you posted on what happens.

Blue Cross Blue Shield IF coverage?
each plan is different so if I had BCBS through my employer then if my employer decided to pay for it I would have it but if they didn't want the extra expense then they could omit it.
SO there is no way to tell except look at the details of the plans offered.
I have had BCBS in the past and never had issues with Drs but it was way before I needed any fertility coverage so I never even checked.

It's not the insurance company, it's the specific plan you have that would determine if you have IVF coverage.

This is what I'm learning so far. I just don't know is if you can choose to have IF coverage when going through The ACA

I read this article over the summer but I hope there's a better update now in NY. http://www.resolve.org/get-involved/legislative-issues/blog/what-the-affordable-care-act-does-wrong.html
eta this article says NY has IF requirement (not necessarily IVF though) Have you read a list of the coverage ACA plans include? http://www.winfertility.com/the-affordable-care-act-and-how-it-effects-infertility-patients/

I have my own business but since it is still in the Newer stages and not showing huge profits (yet hopefully soon!) I went with the Empire BC BS plan that became eligible for obamacare....basically I pay $1200 for DH & I and we have 80% coverage and some drs visiits that are just copays but we have a 4000.00 deductible.....I am still waiting for the all the info to come in on this butso far from calling I have no coverage for IUIS - but thankfully my Dr only charges me $200 each month for Sono (monitoring and then the b2b IUI's (this is why I am hesitant to mve over to a RE just to specifically get injectibles..... I truly hate the insurance system right now!! ok rant over

Blue Cross Blue Shield IF coverage?
The ACA doesn't mandate fertility coverage, and NYS only mandates testing be covered, not treatment..... So I think it's unlikely the plans available under the exchanges will have infertility treatment coverage since it is extra and they are supposed to be as inexpensive as possible. Ask your broker to price it on the private insurance market- then you will be able to see what's available and if it's worth it. I had an insurance broker check and see if I could purchase an extra rider for infertility treatment, since we have insurance through our jobs that doesn't cover it, and they said they get a lot of requests for that but it just isn't possible. We don't have a business though, maybe you could do that with the business??
If you figure it out please let us know! Maybe some of us can come work for you, hahahaha!
