House settling or bad job by contractor?

We had bathroom redone less than a year ago and there are. cracks along the ceiling where it meets the tile wall in the shower, cracks along the window sill, door frame, and in the wainscotting on bottom half of the wall. Is it just from the house settling or did he do a bad job? I know it wont be perfect forever but it just seems like a lot of cracks so soon!

My BIL had very similar cracking and it was definitely the house settling because it was new construction. It's hard to say in your case, but I don't know if settling would happen like that in a redo.

I bought i a brand new house and theres cracks in the most random places, it just happens sometimes from the house settling. I'm not sure about your situation on the ceiling though but yes it does happen.

We have cracks in various places throughout the rest of our house but I dont notice new ones daily. It seems every day in the bathroom I notice a new crack, it seems odd the house could settle that much only in this room, especially since the foundation etc underneath it was existing. The wainscoting is especially noticeable : /

Cracks at door and window are common if they put the seams of the drywall in the wrong spot. many will to avoid cuts etc.

Cracks in the wainscoting - do you mean at the seams? This could just be due to the change in temp etc. I am guessing it is a wood product and not a plastic type product. If so all wood will expand and contract with change in temps.

It sounds like settling but I would call the contractor to discuss your concerns.

The wainscoting and mouldings around the ceiling and door we have in our powder room ALWAYS crack during the winter. When the weather gets warmer the wood/caulk seams swell back to normal and the cracks disappear. I think it's probably because of the weather change given that all the places you mentioned would have been caulked.
