Re: Bridesmaid dresses?!!!
It depends upon the designer, but some can run that small. I would double check that they wrote your measurements correctly for peace of mind. No one is going to look at the size.

Re: Bridesmaid dresses?!!!
Yes, bridal gowns and bridesmaid dresses run really weird. That sounds normal to me.
ETA: I have a friend who is as skinny as they come, wears a size 2, and her dress was a size 10 for my wedding. So stupid, but whatever.

I would have them double check your measurements. The problem with BM dresses is that you need to get a dress that fits your biggest measurement since some have very little give. Usually I am 1 size bigger in BM dresses.

Re: Bridesmaid dresses?!!!
They run really strange. I was a BM twice in one year and one designer had me in a 10 and the other was a 4.

They do run strange.
And often I think it's so they can make extra $$$ off the alterations.

Bridesmaid dresses?!!!
I'm a 6 and just ordered a 14. It was almost a 16 because of my boobs.

That makes sense then. They take the measurements and have to pick the size the the largest measurement falls within. I had a similar thing happen to me.

Bridesmaid dresses?!!!
They tend to run very small. Im a size 2 and my bm dress was an 8... and needed minor alterations not even major ones.

Re: Bridesmaid dresses?!!!
I found the sizes were way different. I was appalled at the size they ordered me too. Also, sonetimes I think they purposely order bigger than you measure...as its easier to take in should you gain weight than it is to make larger, kwim.?

BM are usually ridiculously sized. Plus they charge more for "plus-size" dresses.
But... in the end I'd rather it be too big then too small.

Re: Bridesmaid dresses?!!!
I has to order up 4 sizes from David's bridal because of my bust. The dresses run really small. I felt less bad when the moh who wears a 0 had to order a 6.

Re: Bridesmaid dresses?!!!
I don't think anyone knows how they really run. They always order at least two sizes too big. The last time I was a bridesmaid, they had to do an insane amount of work to make it fit me. So stupid.

Bridesmaid dresses?!!!
When I got married this past March my bridesmaids (who are all very skinny and fit) were all ordered dresses anywhere from sizes 8-12. Depending on the individual build of the girl (bigger boobs, wider hips) some needed a ton of alterations because they were huge but some ended up needing hardly anything and the larger sizes were pretty good. I would def say they run weird. I am a street size 6-8 and all my bm dresses have been a 12. My wedding dress was a 12 as well.

Honestly they didn't even tell me what size dress they were ordering for me. I trusted them to order the size I needed and that was that. BM and wedding dresses are notoriously bigger than street clothes. Don't sweat it.

Re: Bridesmaid dresses?!!!
I was a size 2 for my SIL's wedding and she had me order a size 10. It was swimming on me! I don't think it was her, though. I think the seamstress either wants to be sure it fits or (the cynical side of me thinks) that they want to be sure to make $$ off of the alterations.

Re: Bridesmaid dresses?!!!
They do run small-like someone else said, most of those fabrics have no give.
I do think sometimes they want you to order more to pay for the "plus size" or to pay more for alterations.
I had that issue at David's. They had a 14 & a 16 on the rack, so I tried the 16 on first because I didn't really know my size.
I was going to try the 14 on b/c the 16 was too big, but the seamstress, said, no, just order that size, so there will be room to take it in.
I ended up having pretty much the whole dress taken in--it looked awful & bunchy ( b/c of the fabric) & cost about as much as the dress. The 14 probably would have fit & I just would have had it hemmed & the straps adjusted.
I bought a regular dress from Macy's a few months later for a wedding & I was a 12.
I was terrified of the same thing happening for my own wedding, but I think I only had to go once size up even though my boobs didn't fit, the seamstress knew that the dress would have enough of a seam to let out in the bodice.
