Leave a company after a week (or less) for better offer?

I was interviewing for the past few months and although I said I wasn't in a hurry to leave my company and would wait until I found the best situation, I may have jumped too early. I started at a new firm this past Tuesday and then got an offer from another firm that I really liked yesterday.

The new OFFER has better salary, way more vacation, and is a more challenging role with a more prestigious firm. The new JOB that I started Tuesday is smaller company, probably will give me a better work/life balance (8:30-6pm basically every day), and opportunity to grow in company fast because I am basically overqualified for role.

I feel horrible leaving a company after a week of work but I'm scared that if I don't accept this new offer/challenge, I'm limiting myself.

Any advice????

My thought is that if you've only been there a week and are feeling it's not for you, to cut your ties now before they invest any more time into you. I think it's more common than we realize that people do this.

If the new offer is the job you want, then go for it. I know someone who pretty much did the same thing recently - started a new job and was then offered a job she liked better and left after a week or 2. She has no regrets. What would be the downside to leaving, if the other job is the one you really want?

If your new boss was told he needed to downsize your position, I truly doubt he or she would care- and they'd let you go without a second thought. You have to do what's right for you. I'd take the new job.

Do what's best for you and try (easier said than done!) to not feel bad. Do you think companies feel so guilty when layoffs are necessary that they don't actually go through with it? No. Because they do what's best for them.

If you want to be really nice, give them some notice instead of just walking out. Even just a few days. They may not take it, but at least you did the right thing.
