ESL Certification?

I'm asking for my brother. He is dual certified in Spanish and Italian. Thinking ahead in the future, he wants to get his ESL cert. ASAP. Since they got rid of the assessments in foreign language, he knows this is where he should be heading.

Does anyone know which Long Island college will let him take courses non-matric and not sign up for a ridiculous 30 credit program? His TEACH checklist to make up the difference is pretty short since he has had so many of those courses under his belt, and he only needs a certification in ESL, not a whole third masters' degree.

I'm going for an ESL certification at Touro College. They have three different campuses and a lot of the classes are online. The program I'm in is TESOL, but they do allow non matric students to take classes for certifications.

You should check out their website: www.touro.edu

Re: ESL Certification?

Hey Michelle! I'm in the same boat! You can also be non-matric at Stony Brook. I did something similar where I only needed a couple of classes for certification and didn't register for a Master's program. I actually did take linguistic classes there needed for ESL. I'm probably only a couple away from that certification too!

Yep, that's all he needs. Problem is, he didn't want to trek to Stony brook since he works in Wantagh and lives in Lynbrook, but it is an option. I think he knows.
Queens was a no-go. You're Spanish cerified, right?

I got an ESL cert through St. John's. Only 15 credits. I went to the campus in Oakdale.
